AU plug-ins are crashing DP 6.02

Been a bad day.

I have tried everything I can think of. AU plug-ins are causing a total death kernal panic crash. I can play a project fine with no AU plugs loaded, but when I put them back in ... crash.

Fresh install of:
DP 6.02
LiquidMix 2.3.16
Waves 5.9.7
AutoTune 510

Any one of them by themselves, all or any combination will cause the crash.

Mac OSX 10.5.7
Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5
2.5 GB DDR SDRAM

Where can I turn for help? I spent time talking to MOTU and got nowhere.

Are those the only plugs causing the problem... or all of them? Is literally EVERY AU plug-in you try causing a crash? If so, something is seriously wrong and it's deeper than just DP. Also, I'm not sure what other plugs you're using right now, but I have to recommend OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) to DP6 users with G5s. Although if you're not using certain Native Instruments plugs it may not be an issue.

Have you done the usual repair of permissions?

Have you tried the forcing DP to re-examine the AU plugs? Perhaps trashing the DP preferences?

Actually, I have Tiger installed on another drive. I have the same problem in Tiger.

Try pulling out all your ram sticks bar 1 and see if the problem persists.

If it does then take that one out and try another one.

It sounds like a ram stick going bad to me....

I suspect that your Waves and Auto-Tune are the issue. I am running ver 6 of Waves and the latest version of Auto-Tune without issue and of course they're all AU plugs.

I ran memtest and my RAM passed.

Any one of them will crash the computer alone. Any AU plugs at all. (At least the ones I have ... which I have listed). So, AutoTune, Waves, or Focusrite all by themselves will crash the whole computer. If I remove all AUs, it works fine.

I brought the project and all the plug-ins to my office Mac G5 (intel). Everything works perfectly there. The PowerPC G5 at home is not happy.

The ram test is not very accurate I'm afraid. I would try it.

Also make sure all the updates are UB and NOT just for intel.

I've seen many times *get info* going wrong in this regard.
I only trust Activity Monitor when it comes to this PPC / Intel question. It has never failed on me.

How do I use the activity monitor to check this?

Launch your complete setup. Any active app will appear in Activity Monitor including PPC/Intel info.
BTW, Activity Monitor is in MacOSX Utility folder.
A powerfull little app in troubleshooting situations.

This work for any app. If it's just a AU plugin inside your daw (no standalone), it won't appear though.
You may narrow the culprit by deleting all plugins and re-instantiate them one by one, thru DP pref/plugins.
