Heya,
I've used the CPU saving measure of setting up an Aux track with an effect inserted onto it, then sending multiple tracks to that single Aux and it's seemed to work fine. What I'm wondering about is the returns from that single Aux track. Say I want the drums and guitars to use the same verb, but I want the drum return panned in the center and the guitar return panned somewhere else or eq'd differently. Is that type of thing possible while still using the single Aux or is it necessary to insert a separate effect onto each channel individually in order to gain that much precise control over it?
Thanks!

Re: Panning and Eq'ing Returns
You lose some flexibility when you bus to an Aux track but there are options. For example, you can pan the track hard left and the aux hard right and you get the dry signal on the left and the wet on the right. Or you could set up 3 aux tracks with 3 instances of the same effect, one panned hard left, one centre and one right. This still might save you resources if you have 10 tracks all requiring the same effect and give you back some flexibility. Just remember to have the mix on the effect at 100% when it's on an aux track and dial it in with the send level.
On the other hand, if you don't use a lot of VI's you might be surprised how many effects you can get on each individual track.

Thanks for the reply!
I don't use too many VI's, so I will mess around with more inserts and see what I can get away with
