Hiccups in audio click with countoff?

Hey guys

I am just wondering, I have this situation where if I use audio click (maybe other ways too but only worked with audio click) and I set a 2 bar countoff and record, I hear the 2 bars of clicks and then when it gets to the timeline moving, there is a lag or a short pause of the click sounds that throws them off for a beat or two and then scurries to catch up. This of course makes starting a line on the downbeat really disconcerting. I dont have the problem if I use "wait" rather than "countoff" and neither do i get this if I just start recording with no wait or countoff. Only when I use the countoff do I get the lag. Do I have something set incorrectly? I scoured the settings and found nothing. And my audio is finally set perfectly buffer wise and sample rate and etc so I am getting clean and powerful recording ability. Except this click issue... any suggestions?

Thanks!!

What is your buffer setting? The lower the setting, the less lag.

Not quite I'm afraid :(

Ot seems there is a bug with the metronome feature in 6.

Write a tech link to motu and wait for the update.....

I've posted on this problem a lot -- in my case, it's not the metronome that's at fault (I only use metronome for the two-bar countoff, then, it's silent), but sending MIDI beat clocks to a drum machine. For some reason, so long as I start at Measure 1, the drum machine, which is just set to play a regular 4/4 or 3/4 beat, starts fine. If I start anywhere but at the beginning of Measure 1, the drum machine is kicked on when Play or Record is activated, but it could start anywhere, up-beat, down-beat, it varies every time. It's not staying in sync with the MIDI clock. Most computer sequencers I've ever used are capable of sending a synced-up beat, so that if you start at the beginning of Measure 3, or at Measure 2/3/00, the drum beat kicks on the way it's supposed to. I've tried setting the start offset from "0" to "1", changing the value of how the clocks are sent, nothing works. I've actually had this problem ever since DP 3. Recently, I began to assume it was maybe my drum machines (a Boss DR-660 and -770), so I snagged Izotope's iDrum, and inexpensive virtual drum machine AU plug. Starting at Measure 1, it plays fine. Anywhere but at the start of Measure 1, it kicks off with a horrible staccato stutter before syncing up with DP's MIDI clock.

Has anyone figured out a workaround for this metronome bug? Dashed annoying, what?

Interesting. I ran into this today. I thought it was because I had a few big VI's and FX running. As a workaround, I used the first two bars as my countoff and started on bar 3.

I have heard that MOTU are aware of this and it will be fixed in the next update.

It would have to be ON TOP OF THERE LIST one would think.

I mean it's vital really to what the program is and does.

It makes you wonder who the hell they get to beta test it :?

Yeah, add a couple of measures at the top of the sequence and delete them when your done. But you know... there is also the bounce to disk issue where the first few measures get chopped off (or was it the last few?) WHATEVER... I wonder if that is a related bug? I'd bet it is.

Hmmm... I never really worried about this much in what I do. I always start my sequnces at measure 0|0|000 or measure -1|0|000, so I have one or two empty bars prior to the first beat. It allows for a pickup not to measure one if I want. It's also sort of a holdover from the ancient times when I'd have an empty measure in order to transmit patch changes or sysex to external modules.

Also, when I set the start time to a measure like -1|1|000, I'll then locate to the beginning of measure one, note the real-time value at the downbeat of measure 1, then reopen the chunk start time dialog and set the chunk start realtime value to the negative value of that number. For example, with my two empty bars at the end of the sequence, the realtime at 1|1|000 is 3.0 seconds, I'll set the start time realtime value to -3.0 seconds. That way the downbeat at measure one will come at 0.00 seconds or however the realtime display looks and then my Total Run Time will be accurate as I'm working on a song as I'm always trying to make sure I don't have songs go over 4 minutes... more like 3:30 if I can. Oh... and being a rock guy, there's only one meter setting. DP could crash if you set it to 6/8 and I'd be fine. Okay... I take that back... I think I used 6/8 once a year or two ago. Hehehe...
