I guess that is true, but I thought this board was set up to help people and also to discuss things. Maybe you could have told me what it was in the few seconds it took you to post your reply.
I have read many of your replies timeline and from what I gather you seem to really know what you are doing with DP, etc.
I would not have thought that you would have minded a simple question like I asked.
I guess I will have to go to "google" If no one will tell me.
thanks anyway

I was just pointing out the obvious. Wasn't trying to be an ass...
It's a dedicated DSP card and I don't have one.

No problem Timeline. I did not think that you were trying to be one. It was just a simple question. I respect yours and many others opinion and advice on this board.
I did look it up though
What would be the advantage of it. I have Waves gold and I feel that it is very good quality. Is the option of have the plugins on a DSp card worth the money? Does anyone have any problems with the card?
Again... I am just asking because I respect those on this board. If I called a salesman at the store, they would tell me anything just to sell it to me.

The UAD-1 provides several advantage, being that it is a dedicated DSP card, taking some strain off your CPU. The plugins sound great, and it's a great way to achieve somewhat of a pseudo-analog sound. The processing power is not huge, but it definitely helps. Some plugins (Dreamverb, 1176LN, Nigel) are quite hogs though. There are certainly some issues with DP prior to 4.5 to consider, which is another reason that I'm upgrading to 4.5 very soon.
Check out

Waves has some great plugs but the UAD is a very different animal. It's focus is on vintage emmulations of classic compressors and EQ's etc. If those types of processors would enhance the type of work you do then buying one is a no-brainer. I love the card and it works flawlessly with DP4.52.

Thanks guys. very helpful. Belonging to this board is like having the best instructors around.
I am self taught on DP for about three years now. I love being able to ask questions to people that seem to really know what they are doing.
God bless
Long live DP

FYI - April 2005 edition of ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN has an article on the Pros/Cons of DSP hardware.
I found it helpful - but I'm also fascinated by small shiney objects...
