MOTU 896 HD - Problems

Currently when I connect my MOTU 896 HD to my computer it flashes (to connect) and then locks on 48K. Other times, it keeps flashing continously - with no connection. I've had the same setup for 4 years, nothing has moved or changed etc etc. Even my PC laptop on XP, hasn't changed or been hooked to the internet.

Has anyone else experienced this? What can i do?

Thanks for reading

I would look at three things since you've had a working system. (no upgrades to window recently?)

1)intermittent break in your firewire cable, try another one.

2) firewire port is shooting craps, try another and for grins get one with a TI chipset

3) something bad in the unit itself

thanks for the reply.

1)intermittent break in your firewire cable, try another one.

* IS this common? A problem with the cable ? Has anyone else experienced this? Or is this clutching onto straws?

2) firewire port is shooting craps, try another and for grins get one with a TI chipset

is that the port on my laptop? ...its one of those small firewire connections, i never felt that this connection was that sturdy, as the slight knock, would disconnect

Do ports become damaged after over use? or dust? ....i do use my laptop alot for DJIng ....but the PC has never been dropped, damaged or had liquids spilt on it

thanks people...

depends how hard you are on your gear.

You are having sync problems. I'm starting at the easy things to check and going harder (read: more money) Why might there be sync troubles on a system that has been working,...

firewire mini: Makes sense to me. If you have a pcimia slot you might try a different firewire device. There are some that have full sized connectors. And they sholdn't cost much.

Mine did the same thing about 2 months ago, turned out the unit went bad all of a sudden. Called tech support at motu, they told me to send it to them and they would fix or replace unit for a flat $100.00. Ended up with brand new unit. Mine was about 3 or 4 years old.

Good luck
