Hey friends, When you recording/tracking and mixing everything on a computer, intel, DP 6.02 etc..
do you really need a DA ?
im kind of confuse, i am clear about using a A/D but... D/A ? what's for ?
so what about this configuration ?
Apogee A/D 16X
Mini DAC
Symphony 64 PCIe Card
X-Symphony Option Card
Thank you guys, any help its going to have impact on my decision to buy some stuff.

You need the same quality D/A as the A/D to fully hear what you hear.

ACtually, the gear you're asking about is EXACTLY the configuration I recommend for those that want a very high-end setup when using Apogee, but don't need a lot of outputs. For most project/pro studios that I'm putting in Apogee gear, I'll recommend the AD16X and the Rosetta800---why? This gives them 24-inputs with 8-outputs. Now while the Rosetta800 isn't exactly the AD16X/DA16X level, at that point it's not that much of an issue. If you go this direction, simply connect an Optical Cable out of the AD16X into the MiniDAC input---and use ADVANCED ROUTING MODE. The other advantage to the MiniDAC is that you have analog attenuation monitor control, which is very important in a DAW environment.

Thank you Brad,
i just realize you are an audio consultant !
Yesterday I just bought the X-Symphony/ Symphony 64/ rosetta 800/BigBen... in a couple of months i going to upgrade adding a AD16X to my system as you recommend so i let you know.
i just connect everything and everything appears to be ok,i can see the PCI correctly installed on my computer, all the lights are ok on both the rosetta and Big Ben, i terminate the WC cable,
but i have only an annoying noise coming out my speakers so i realize i need some kind of attenuation control right ?
i have the " T.C level pilot" but still only noise its coming out...
i post a treat about this here

if you have any idea, i really appreciated your help.
Thank you Brad.

Question---why did you buy the BigBen? Do you have multiple devices connected digitally?
As to annoying noise coming out, well I can't say that an attenuator would change this. What kind of noise is it? Is it just noise floor from everything being so loud?

Thank you Brad.
The noise its coming gradually, when i start my system after all night let it rest,
i turn on the computer then both apogee, i start a song on i tunes and sound perfect but after 3 songs the sound start to degrading
it start with a little clips just like digital noises (like different Hz format on each device), then like an LP old record, then you can hear nothing but scratch noise.
I have WC because Also I have a digimax FS
but i was tried disconnect and work as INTERNAL WC... same happened.
