User's Plug-Ins Nonfunctioning in 6.02!! (RESOLVED)
Posted: Sat Mar 14, 2009 5:23 pm
by greg328
They worked fine in 6.00. 6.01 had the same problem as 6.02. I was hoping 6.02 would have fixed this.
Here's the list of my plug-ins that have screen re-draw issues, or simply dead to the mouse click: (Some still receive MIDI, btw...)
All Spectrasonics, All Native Instruments, CS-80V, MiniMoog V (1 other Arturia plugs works fine, Jupiter 8V) and EASTWEST Play engine 1.20.
Working plugs:
All MOTU, UVI Workstation, Jupiter 8V.
I deleted all relevant preferences, allowed the plugs to re-scan (which by the way, I just did again, and now the window prompt after the scan is freezing and I can't click out of it, forcing a forced quit!!!)
Anybody have any other ideas for me? This has been a pain in the a** for a while now!
Thanks,
Greg in Houston

Hi Greg. It would help if you posted some information about your system. A lot of people put this in their signature. Do you have an Intel Mac or PPC (G5/G4, etc.). Get the latest version of Stylus. I can tell you for certain both version 1.61 and the latest, 1.7e work fine on DP6.02 for me and most other people. Your experience, at least with Stylus is atypical. As for the other stuff, some NI plugs have problems on PPC Macs running Leopard. Others do not. The problem is probably not as bad as you describe and making sure you have the latest versions (especially Stylus RMX) and giving us some system info will help solve the problem.

All I can say is that my Native Instruments plugins are all working in DP 6.02. I haven't seen a single problem in them. I've heard others say that some of the ones you mentioned are working for them. The problem isn't DP, as far as I know, unless there is a known bug between DP and one of your other plugins that I don't know about.
It sucks to get in a position where things aren't working, because it means a lot of work to get out of it. But somewhere between here and a full reinstall of everything from scratch there is a happily working setup which will run your plugins. The standard advice has been listed many times. It's a matter of figuring out how much of it to use, and how far you should go. Be sure to back everything up before you start troubleshooting.
• Back up your preferences folder, because you may be wanting to trash it and see if that fixes things.
• Do the permissions repair, though it rarely is the culprit, but when it is, that's the only thing that will fix it.
• Check developers' websites for upgrades
• Did you do your last OSX update from the Combo Updater? Or from Software Update? The latter often does not do a complete install, or something. Always use the Combo Updater, available on Apple's website.
• Try reinstalling DP and your audio and MIDI drivers.
• Try removing all plugins, then replacing half and testing it; if it works, replace half the remaining plugins and test. If successful, keep doing that until you narrow it down to one or two that are causing crashes. Plugins do not have to be open, and maybe not even instantiated, to cause a crash. When launching DP, hold down the option key to change your plugin setup before DP even boots.
I suspect that the last step above is the one that will bear the most fruit. Maybe try it first.

Thanks so much, James and Shoosie!
Allow me to give a bit of info previously due...
3.2 GHZ 8-Core Intel Mac (2008) 10gig RAM, OS 10.5.6
I have not upgraded Stylus RMX from it's current state, which I think is 1.5. I know 1.7 is out, and free--will do that ASAP. Omnisphere also is non-functioning, dead to any click.
However, I believe the problem is DP-centric, as all plugs work fine in 6.00. 6.01-.02, not so. Something changed, but I have NO idea what. I don't believe the problem is MAC OS-related, because, again, 6.00 ran them all just fine, same OS. So, all versions of my plugs run fine in 6.00, just not the later ones. ?????
By the way, this is not causing any crashes, just dead plugs. They either don't respond to mouse clicks, or turn white. Sometimes clicking on them brings back a bit of the image, but not always.

Stylus RMX should definitely work. 1.5 is rather old.
As for plugs working in 6.0 and 6.01 but not in 6.02... that's highly unusual as plug-in compatibility pretty much improved for most people across the board.
Could you tell us which specific plugs are turning white? Do you mean some of the Native Instruments stuff? I would consider reinstalling 6.02. I had issues with KontaktPlayer 2 with DP6.02/PPC/Leopard... same with FM7 and FM8 and had to go back to Tiger because of it. You may have to update some plugs possibly.

Something did change in DP6.02 that caused problems with some plug-ins, and it seems often it was to do with the GUI manipulation. However, when Scott from Stillwell investigated why the Stillwell plug-ins GUI had stopped responding, he reported back here that it was a problem at their end with the way they'd coded it - they'd been getting away with it in previous versions of DP (and Logic) but 6.02 brought the problem to the fore (and kudos to them for not just blaming everyone else BTW).
So it's often not as simple as it seems. The Apple AU specs seem to be a complicated and ever-changing beast. I wouldn't want to be a 3rd party plug-in developer, that's for sure.

OK, I updated to Stylus 1.7. Omnisphere is the latest Version, 1.03 I think. Both of these plugs are still nonfunctioning.
Other specific non-functioning plugs: NI B4 II, FM8, Battery 3, KORE player, KontaktPlayer2 (just updated) GuitarRig 3.1.2. So, ALL NI plugs don't work. These are the ones turning white.
Arturia: CS-80V and MiniMoogV not working--just dead. These don't turn white. Jupiter 8V works fine, strangely.
EWPLAY 1.20 turns white, non-functioning. I have Ministry of Rock, Fab Four, and EWQL Symphony Platinum. Can't use 'em..
Curiously, my MusicLab plugs, RealGuitar2 and RealStrat work fine. Also, FXpansion BFD2 works fine.

It dawned upon me that the only non-functioning plugs are all AU. (weird however, that the above AU plugs still work.)
All the MAS plugs work fine. A further oddity is that DP 6.00 plays with ALL plugs just fine.
Here's what I think MAY be the culprit: my MAS Audiounit Support.bundle file. I had an older one in the user/library/audio/plug-ins/MAS folder. It was 1.6.1,(21139),(c) 2006 MOTU. I did this on the advice of people here, in order to be able to use all my plug with 6.00, if memory serves. So, I moved the newer MAS Audiounit Support.bundle file to an external drive for possible future use, way back when I installed 6.00 (if memory serves). Strangely, this one is also labeled 1.6.1 but the subsequent info is different: (25660), (c) 2007 MOTU. (Got all this info using "Get Info"). I put the newer one back into proper position just now, still no go.....
Is this bundle file critical to use AU plugs within DP? I imagine it is. Can anybody confirm the newest bundle version info? Maybe somebody could send it to me via e-mail, if a newer one exists?
greg@greggiacona.com
Not sure why DP 6.XX is using a MAS Audiounit Support.bundle file dated 2006 or 2007. Not sure why my 6.XX installers didn't install a newer one.
Of course, I could be way wrong, and the problem lies elsewhere, but at this point, I'm stumped big time! Any help would be appreciated!

Hi there...
I had a problem that sounds very similar to what you're experiencing.. See this thread...
http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... =1&t=34110
I should take James' advice and do a full reinstall from 6.0 up to 6.02 (including 6.01).. That's what fixed it for me.. Be sure to uninstall everything DP that you can find first.
Don't worry about the MAS audio support bundle file for now. Just try a reinstall first... Afterwards, add all your AU plugins gradually, say 10 or 20 at a time.. Don't add them all at once!
Hope that helps...

Can somebody let me know what the current version of MAS Audiounit Support.bundle they have with DP 6.02?
Maybe e-mail me a copy?
greg@greggiacona.com
Meanwhile I will try a fresh install of 6.00-.01-.02--If I can find the old 6.01 installer....
Thanks in advance..
Greg

I had similar difficulties with 6.02. Audio Unit Support bundle was a major part of the problem. Current version is 1.7.0, which I have after a full uninstall-re-install of 6.02
Note, I am on a PPC in 10.4.11, and I jumped straight in with v6.02, but I couldn't get several plugs to respond to the mouse either. Also had a huge problem where dragging a soundbite from the soundbite window onto a track crashed DP.
I solved it by doing the uninstall, sorting out the plugins components folder, removing ancient plugs that I didn't use, and I discovered I had duplicates of the audio Unit Support bundle. Threw away the old one, started loading a 'safe' set of plugins using the Option key while launching, and began adding plugs back in slowly.
I'm on a deadline so I haven't got round to loading any instruments beyond MOTU's, but my previously frozen plugs are back and working (including the PSP and Sonnox, and my now long in the tooth EAS Inspector).
hope this little bit of info helps

You can just log in to motu's site and grab 6.01 again, no problems

Just checked, only the 6.02 updater is currently available to download from the MOTU website. Shouldn't be a problem, as it can update from 6.00, where I'll start from again.
Still would LOVE to know the current version of the MAS Audiounit Support.bundle.......

Looking on my laptop (which I don't use for work but have kept updated) it's version 1.70. I think that would definitely fix your problem. I too was using the older version at first back in DP 6 but when they started updating to 6x it caused problems so I went with the new version of the AU bundle. I'd be happy to send it if you pm me.

Thanks Dave. Mysteriously, V 1.7.0 has appeared on my machine. Not sure how it got there, as it used to be 1.6.1.
I did not re-install anything, by the way, it just appeared.. ???
Things are now working normally. I appreciate all the ideas and help from here!
