From the I/O point of view, I "believe" there was an upgrade in the converters. I don't know if that was the official answer off the top of my head, but I had both and the mk3 did sound better. A major difference when purchasing the core is the difference in the PCI324 and PCI424 cards. The 324 had (3) connection ports while the 424 had (4), however the PCI424 also had DSP processing onboard for latency-free monitoring where the 324 card did not.

The PCI-324 has this feature also but the CueMix features aren't available under Mac OS X, and the PCI-324 generally isn't compatible with most newer computers running Windows.

Are they both 24 bit?

do they both go to 96k?
