Everytime I boot up I have to make new MIDI connections

Everytime I boot up the computer I have to make new MIDI connections in the Audio/MIDI window as the old virtual routings to the MIDI Express unit are grayed out and a new blank MIDI express is shown active. This has never happened over the years unless the ME was unplugged or a different ME was added to the system. Now out of the blue it's doing this upon every reboot of my G5. Any ideas/suggestions?

I've been seeing some Audio/MIDI weirdness, too. Although my setup comes up intact, one connection via MIDI (the connection between my 828MkII and my Roland VX88) is lost every time I re-boot. More testing is to be done to confirm.

I thought I saw another thread on this a couple of days ago...

We'll see how things are working tomorrow.
Maybe I'll enjoy a spontaneous remission, like at least one other has reported.
I updated the 828MkII CueMix software to CueMix FX only two days ago.

Thanks for the responses. I will look into the other threads. The weird thing is that I didn't change anything - one day it just started doing it. The old configuration is there, just grayed out so at least I can quickly re-create my connections looking at where they went on the old one but SHEEESH! I generally use all 8 ins/outs. I also noticed that in DP 5 I have NO MIDI working at all (MIDI tracks italicized) but no prob since I still work in 4.61 because of my rewire apps doing well there. Maybe the DP5 failure to see the new config is a clue though?

Just my 2 cents :
Have you tried to boot in different orders ? That is to say :
- computer first, then MIDI devices
- MIDI devices, then computer
Sometimes I just have to un-plug the USB wire on my MIDI device, then re-plug, and here it is again.

I've always booted up computer with everything else already on. I tried booting up computer first and when I turned on the express XT it created the new icon with no connections and the others grayed out (just like before). When I unplugged the XT the new icon grayed out and when I plugged it back in the new icon remains grayed out until I rescan MIDI and then the new icon with no connections becomes active again...

It sounds like you may need to replace the battery in your MIDI Express. See this article on the MOTU Support site.
