MIDI connection deactivated when quitting DP 6.01

I'm running DP 6.01 and have an Alesis QS8 optically connected to a 828mkII with MIDI in/out cables properly run between the two devices. The configuration is properly drawn/connected in the "Audio MIDI Setup" window in DP and, until recently, the MIDI connection was always active. But now, every time I quit DP and then relaunch it (either in the same project or a new one), I have to open the "Audio MIDI Setup" window and re-draw this connection to "reactivate" it. For some reason as DP is launching and reloading VIs and scanning connections, when it scans this MIDI connection it doesn't like something and just deactivates it, causing the "drawn" cables between the two devices in the "Audio MIDI Setup" window to disappear. I have no idea why this suddenly started happening... anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Quit DP and Audio MIDI Setup.
Go to /Users/your_username/Library/Audio/MIDI Configurations, and delete the configuration files that you find there.
Re-launch Audio MIDI Setup, add the QS8 device, and connect it to the 828mkII icon.
Re-launch DP and test again.

Thanks for your response 1inputOutput, but it didn't solve the issue. I still have to reconnect the QS8 to the 828mkII in the MIDI setup window every time I relaunch DP. :-(

Any other suggestions?

Did you just upgrade to the 1.4.20 FW drivers? This seems to be endemic to this update. I needed to revert back to 1.4.9 to solve the problem in DP 5.13.

AMS's "rescan MIDI" button (in the toolbar) actually worked for me not long ago; I'd normally power the XT down, wait 10 seconds and power back up, but hey, if said button works...

Try it if you haven't already.

Cuttime, forgive my ignorance, but how do I check which version of the FW drivers I currently have?

Monkey Man, every time I hit the "rescan" button in AMS, it erases the drawn MIDI cables between the QS8 and the 828mkII. Very puzzling. Any other thoughts?

When you launch the MOTU Audio Setup look at the "General" tab, at the bottom of the window.

Thanks cuttime. I'm out of my studio until tomorrow AM, so I'll check my FW driver version then.

Cuttime, I do have FW driver version 1.4.20, but the problem has stopped this morning.... go figure. Must be something with my keyboard, it is pretty old. I may try reverting back to an older driver if the problem returns. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well I'm having this issue between my 828MK2 and my Mackie Control patched into its Mid Ports. Exact same behavior. No connection showing in AudioMidi, draw the connection, rescan, connection disappears. All other connections are fine.

I reinstalled the drivers and followed the instructions to a 'T'. (Uninstalled old drivers, shutdown, turned 828 off, restarted, installed new drivers, shut down, turned 828 on, restarted, etc. Or something complex like that. The instructions are at home.)

No change.

Sorry to hear about that, nk_e. With any luck, it'll just sort itself out as it seems to have done for goosetunes.

I've had many a MIDI glitch over the years, and it's interesting how often these sorts of things clear up on their own. I'm out of ideas on this one, but I'll stay tuned just in case.

Yeh. I just plugged the MCU into the MIDI ports of something else in my rig and it's fine. Looks like the problem is with the MIDI connections to the 828 only. I downloaded the old version of the driver and may get around to installing it....time is limited and dealing with this type of issue since i have it working otherwise is a low priority. Maybe I'll just wait for the next update.

cheers.

Unfortunately, the only "work around" I've found is to open Audio MIDI Setup at the beginning of my day, redraw the connection, and then hide AMS in the background. I can then open and close out of as many DP projects as I want without the QS8-to-828 MIDI connection being dropped. But the second I close AMS, the connection is dropped. Still haven't tried reverting back to older 828 driver yet because of the same reason: it's an annoying issue, but at least everything else works. If and when I find the time to try the driver swap, I'll report back with the results.

Well done, 'Tunester (or is that, "Goosester"?).

I look forward to your return report.

+1 on the AMS analysis. The only MIDI connection lost in AMS is the 828 MIDI I/O, and the workaround isn't all that tough to handle. We'll should see a fix in the next MOTU driver update.
