Okay... I don't know much about this kind of thing... but I was speculating with a friend about this. At the very end of his performance, Bruce shouts into the mic in front of the largest television audience in the world, "I'm going to Disneyland!!" I'm thinking that wasn't just a spontaneous bit of humor, but perhaps a deal was struck and Bruce got a nice fat check from Disney for that utterance. And if so, I'm guessing that was good for 100 G's at least, huh? More? Or am I just a cynic?

Not that I blame Springsteen... I do it too in a heartbeat. But I'm thinking an agreement must've been worked out between him and Disney. I'd love to see what a contract like that looks like too! "At the appropriate time, at the end of the performance, Bruce Springstein (hereinafter referred to as "PERFORMER," shall loudly utter the phrase "I'm going to Disneyland!""

Oh... and one other small observation. Journey played the "tailgate" show and I love those guys and the new singer is a fine person... but the unfortunate thing is Journey just isn't Journey to me without Steve Perry. It's one of those two-edged swords for a band. You have a singer with a very distinctive delivery and that becomes a signature part of your sound. One day you have a new singer, and you just never seem to sound quite right to your fan base again. (See also: Rob Halford who is now back with JP!)

Now that would be cash for comment, Jimbo. Yikes!

If it were Mick Jagger up there saying it, then I'd guess cash as the motive. But Springsteen has never been one who goes for the corporate
sponsorship type of stuff, so the comment very well could have been on the up-and-up.

Hmmmm... then he wasted an opportunity... LOL. Well that's pretty cool I guess if it was spontaneous, but it seems sort of odd to me when I was watching it and I thought "Holy cow! Disneyland has gotta be lovin' that!"

The local (Oz) commentator said that it was a reference to the fact that every year the Superbowl MVP gets a trip to Disneyland as part of their prize pack, and that they all end up saying "I'm going to Disneyland!!" at their MVP press conference. He speculated that Brucey was doing a Walter Mitty - dreaming that he was the MVP.

Sounded plausible to me.

Yeah... I've seen all those commercials with the players saying that... and the player get big bucks for doing so. I just wondered if the Boss was making a joke and giving a free plug, or he had someone savvy enough to make a side deal with the mouse!

Personally, I think DisneyWorld is waaaay better than DisneyLand....but I guess "I'm going to DisneyWorld" doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely

Well, he did sign an exclusive deal with... Wallmart for a "best of". Coming from the Boss, that is a weird association.

OH COME ON....you've got to be kidding! This is a guy who did an exclusive w Wal-mart.... whatever dubious hype/"street cred" the "boss" had has been flushed down the toilet after Bruce wiped his ass with $100 bills......

I never understood why this guy got so much hype.... as a matter of fact, I personally don't think you could find an artist that's been as over hyped over the years as Bruce Springsteen..... the future of rock and roll.... gag and vomit, lol.

I personally think that by far the best half-time show in recent memory was Paul McCartney... hands down. Now that was old school, we-don't-need-no-pitch-correction-or-lip-synch, musical talent. No BS. Man... that was about the best half-time show I can remember. It also reminded me just what a travesty it was when GNR covered "Live and Let Die."

Nobody's gonna forget the "wardrobe malfunction" though...

He admitted the WalMart thing was a mistake. Not many people do that.

Yes, hence my point... consistently over-hyped, since the beginning of his career and pretty much thereafter. I think he's ok as a rock musician/performer, certainly not terrible or the second coming of Christ as some of the rock press would have you believe..... and he apologized for the Wal-mart deal after he got called on it, not before..... pretty much what your common celeb/politico does nowadays, not that it really matters to me one way or another, just hate the hype and bs that's passed off as info/wisdom in our over-mediated society.

i know the 'boss' was popular to many but listening to his music was kinda like work to me. i often quit before it was over and never got a check outta the deal
to me, turning down 6 figures to shout out 4 words would be f-ing goofy(im not taking about minnie) but understand i get told to stfu for free much too often.

steve perry was a good singer. i mostly liked the girls that liked him when i went to the 80s concerts, big hair and razored tease(t-shirts). arguably journey had superior musicianship but when i saw ac/dc open for journey back then, lovin, touching, squeezing seemed too cuddly after just hearing girls got rhythm.

I bet he isn't going to give the $$$ back though. Good mistake. Besides, really, if you want a yacht, you're going to have to snuggle up to Wal-Mart, Clear Channel, et.al. anyway.
