I'm Out Of Ideas

I have a 896 mk 3 and Asus A8V motherboard with a Athlon xp 64 3500+ with 2gig mem. I use the latest rev of Reaper.
I've tried every possible service pack (1-3), re-installed XP twice, did every tweak I could find, have a TI chip set fw card and tried all different Motu drivers.
I re-installed my RME Multiface and it was as stable as a rock with no squeals, the 896 was almost unusable due to stops and squeals on the same PC.
Do you guys have any ideas? I'm about to sell the 896 (or toss it into the Mississippi river

)

If it still doesn't work with SP1 then I really have no clue. It could be faulty but that's suspiciously unlikely given the track-record on this forum. You could return it to the point of purchase, or just offload it for something else.
Have you tried installing the 896 on a different system?

I'm thinking that it might be bad as it seems to be getting worse. I bought the extended warranty at GC so I'll have Motu take a look. I have tried two FW cards on the same system with no difference. I really would like it to work as it has more power than the RME as far as inputs and bit rate, but I record for other people and have had two sessions screw up due to squeals, it's embarrassing and hurts my rep to have to redo a take due to the squeals and stops and whatnot. I have to run the buffer at 512 (about 20ms latency) to get it close to stable, that's to much for most things I do. The RME can run at 6ms with no clicks on the same system.
If I get out of the Motu world I want to thank this board for all the threads on correcting the problems due to Microsoft and Motu driver problems, Motu tech support is non-existent as far as I can tell.
