Anyone know if there's a maximum length of cable for word clock thru BNC?

I think a word clock signal is about the same amplitude as a line level audio signal, so I would follow the same guidelines as for line level analog. Hosa makes word clock cables up to 100 feet. I think you would encounter interference and signal degradation with cables much longer than that.

not to mention jitter. longer cable runs always encounter more jitter.

what devices are you clocking together? you should run the clock master from the weakest source.

At the moment, I have an 828MkII and a Digimax LT. I'm hoping to replace the Digimax with an 8Pre. Also in the chain is an Ultralite MkIII. I'm hoping I can send word clock to that via SPDIF at the same time.

Neither the 8pre nor the UltraLite mk3 have word click I/O. You can synchronize them to the 828mkII by ADAT optical and S/PDIF, respectively, or they can synchronize to each other over the FireWire connection.

Yeah, I was going to connect the 8Pre with the ADAT optical. If I go the FireWire route, doesn't that give each individual unit it's own CueMix console? I'd like to have them all together.

i dont think you can clock them over firewire can you?

Yes, the MOTU driver supports synchronization over the FireWire connection.
