That's the message I get when I try to update my 8pre's firmware with the 1.03 firmware update utility. I saw that others have had this issue in the past but I never saw a resolution. I did post this as an issue with Motu four days ago, and they of course haven't even read the incident report yet. (Is Motu EVER going to address their support problems??)

Vista 32 bit
WaveRT drivers (3.6.8.1394), posted 12/18/08

The device works okay except that every now and then when I cycle power, it goes into its startup routine and loops endlessly unless I leave it powered down for a few minutes, but that's another story.

I am getting the same message when updating my new 828MkIII on Vista 64 bit. I follow the instructions to hold the Page button while powering up. It puts me in the bootloader stage, but the firmware updater still doesn't recognize the unit as in the update state. There must be some other steps that I missed.
