Motu to release WaveRT drivers!

This is very interesting news. The most interesting part is that there will be WaveRT drivers available for USB/Firewire drivers. This was previously not thought to be technically possible, as Microsoft designed WaveRT as a PCI/PCIe-only technology. But a little bird tells me that motu figured out a way to expose a buffer to the driver, thereby getting around Microsoft's limitation.

Here's a comment from Noel Borthwick over at Cakewalk regarding this.

The slightly dissapointing thing (if the above post is true), is that yet again USB/Firewire drivers will be released shortly, while PCI/PCIe is again left languishing until they decide to release those later, grrr. Hopefully the wait wont be long, because it's been two long years since they released any driver for any PCI/PCIe product!

Just checked the MOTU site and looks like the drivers are up for USB/FW interfaces. Alas, there is nothing for PCI/PCIe and again we PCI/PCIe-424 users feel like the poor second cousins! I don't think I'd touch PCI again, because it is being wiped from the face of the earth when it comes to pro audio interfaces and the required support. :(

someone wake me up when there is a report on how well they work with two or more units. Just the same I'll probably roll over and sleep until the bugs with Windows 7 are worked out,..

Interesting, it works with Vista 64 and all of my apps now show a WaveRT as an option. What ever that does for me, don't know never had the option to try it, but it does produce sound. Did not see any change it CueMix FX.

WaveRT is Microsoft's new driver model created for Vista. It's the native Vista driver. As far as I know (could be wrong), Sonar is the only DAW currently able to take full advantage of WaveRT drivers.

When Vista first came out, a lot of analysts said that Vista's true audio potential would only be realised when WaveRT hardware drivers and software written for it were available. Looks like we're there now, but only time will tell if there are benefits to be had.

I think you're right. Sonar 8 is the only DAW that supports WaveRT at the moment. Interestingly, Roland's audio interface drivers still don't feature WaveRT support. (Roland owns Cakewalk.)
