LOL: Microsoft Songsmith - CLASSIC FAIL! :)

Oh gosh... a link about this just got posted on the MOTU-MAC list. Microsoft Songsmith. Ummm... what is this? The garage band killer? Or is Microsoft TRYING to help Apple sell more Macs?

I dunno. It's truly bizarre and the marketing video is surreal. If it weren't for the URL at the end, you'd think it were a joke. Maybe it's true: maybe all corporations when they get as big as Microsoft get lazy and collapse and then release things like Vista and Songsmith.

I hope they're laughing their asses off in Cupertino. :D Microsoft is so hopelessly un-hip.

I didn't think such music was possible... OMG!

While we're on marketing... it's "what's up with the Deal of the Day?" time.

Deal of the Day: EPF-15A 6-Inch Flexible Pop Filter

Musician's Friend $12.99; regularly $19.99

Amazon: Regular price: $13.99

Nothing like a good application of I - IV - V7, ya know?

That. Was. Awful. Someone approved that? Do they even know what the "18-24 demographic" likes? I had to Google Songsmith to see if it was real.

I need to go listen to something else. Fast.

Actually, NOW the vomit and old sock analogy applies. Right across her little face...

And you know that production cost about (my guess?) $150k.

I'm going back into hibernation. Wake me when it's art again.

Hmmm... maybe we should try to find a silver lining? Maybe this is the "Guitar Hero" or "Rockband" of songwriting? :D Maybe a kid will make something up, take it to their friend who will laugh, then show them Garage Band? Dunno.

A demo download is available, so why not try it first and then make fun of the product rather than the promo video? You might be surprised.

I'd rather make fun of it. :) J/K! Do they have a Mac version?

I'm sure there's some interesting technology underneath the hood... I will grant that. I would even try it out, but I don't really have a Windows machine that would be equipped to try it out. But that really is the most god-awful promotional video ever. Ick! I don't expect a Mac verison.

OK, I'm not very happy with you guys for making me watch that thing. My short term memory isn't that great though, so I'll be over it soon -- not to worry.

It's not often something makes me cringe, but this video makes me cringe. Yikes!

I read about this yesterday on the PGmusic (Band in a Box) website. Apparently PGmusic developed the underlying technology and Microsoft incorporated it into Songsmith.

My wife was really mad at me for watching that in the kitchen. She spent the next hour with that song going through her brain. I think she threw some metal in the CD player when she went to work just to clean her brain out. Seriously.

I'm not knocking the software (although the interface looked a bit odd in the add). Interesting concept. It's the add itself that should never have been released. Writing major corporate jingles (for glowing towels) with Band-In-the-Box software? I suspended my disbelief until my arms broke off and dropped it over a cliff.

I need to drill a hole in my head and let the sap out now...

Does it come with the laptop decals, too?
