Hi,
I'm having trouble figuring out the Timepiece, does anyone have a copy of the manual? (C'mon Motu, why can a decent manufacturer like yourselves not post the PDF's?)
Specifically though, does anyone know how to sync a timepiece to logic (or vice versa) via USB at a 96k sampling rate?
My problem is that when i try to sync synths and drum machine clocks to 'external' the clock being sent to the devices is really fast...i.e. when i press play in logic, the drum machines playback their patterns at triple speed?
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks
Geoff

Re: Motu MIDI Timepiece
The MTP echoes realtime MIDI clocks through the device. MIDI realtime clocks are getting merged and echoed out all ports from multiple devices causing the tempo to be too fast. Either turn off MIDI beat clocks on your devices where you don't need it or use input filtering on the MTP to mute realtime. You can see this in the status LEDs which appears like a steady glow. Allow timing info to pass only on desired path and it will work.

Re: Motu MIDI Timepiece
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply, makes sense in principle, would you explain further? Im not 100% sure what this means in reality, ideally some click by click insight would be much appreciated.
Were definitely getting the steady glow on the input lights though.
Also on the whole sync thing, as the MTP is not my only port, ideally I want to slave the MTC to Logic 8, any idea on how to do this, at present were baffled. Do you (or anyone) know how to set logic to do the right thing to achieve this (tried sending MTC in sync preferences - but no joy).
At present were experiencing a -14 MIDI delay when triggering (which were compensating for by way of the channel strip MIDI delay parameter (but not ideal et). I wonder if syncing logic and MTP will resolve this? or perhaps this is a result of latency (as were running the MTP off a USB hub) but then I also run an akai MPK49 off the hub and experience no latency.
Interesting. If anyone can explain MTP and or Syncing Logic will be much appreciated. (also am thinking about syncing via SMPTE fro strictly audio purposes, anyone have any thoughts on this? will it help solve general recording delay, latency and MIDI delay etc? - is a big ask on a big subject, if anyone knows of good text, please post links/info)
Thanks
Geoff

Re: Motu MIDI Timepiece
Hi,
Ok so I found the control, for those interested, its from the mutes button, select 'realtime' from the dropdown select 'outputs' then press 'set all'.
This i believe mutes the sending of all clock messages?? ...or at least thats what it seems to have done.
The problem now is, how do i send the clock, its not really resolved the issue?
Also any thoughts on why the MTP MIDI signal is delayed causing my modules to trigger late? its not the USB hub, im going directly into the Macbook.
Come on people help me out here, or am I a dying breed? everyone prefers the poor sound and easy life of software?
Cheers

Re: Motu MIDI Timepiece
in my private quest...i managed to figure out sending clock messages from logic to the 828 with out getting the extra speed thing.
sent the MIDI to 'timepiece av port 1'
no just have to figure out the MIDI delay...
