Setting up levels correclty? (828mk3, Logic, mackie mixer)

Hi.
First of all, I hunted down a used Motu 828mk3 and installed all the software the other night. All the ins and outs work but the output from the Mac is ridiculously loud!

Previously I used a Mackie onyx 1220 with the firewire card as my interface. The onyx came short as it only had one pair of outputs that came into the control room section via the FW card, so I decided to get the Motu. At first I thought I might sell the onyx after I get the Motu, but now I have it hooked so that the outputs of the motu are half-normaled thru a neutrik patch bay into the line inputs 5-12 of the onyx mixer. Very nice indeed! I assigned the analog out 1-2 as my main out in the motu setup.

Here is a couple of basic questions:
1) As a new Motu user with a secondhand unit, how do I register my product and get the latest firmwares and updates?
2) This is the main question, setting up the levels! Why is it that the coreaudio output is significantly louder than basically any line level source (cd-player, synthmodule, etc..) ? Can I adjust the system output in any of the cuemix fx tabs?

It really bugs me that seemingly there is no way of getting the system outs (output of Logic, itunes, safari etc) to show up in the mixes tab! It is just hardwired to the outputs and no way of trimming it to match the levels!!

Any help, advice and tips are welcome!
