2408 mkIII volume knob problem

Post by EricWatkins »

Hi everyone. First post on this forum. I have a MOTU 2408 mkIII that is giving me some problems. THis is the 2nd unit in less than a year that the volume knob seems to be going bad on me. The first unit I had only lasted maybe a week or two before I had problems. What it does is, if I turn the volume all the way down, the left channel is still putting out volume like crazy. As I bring up the volume, the right channel starts to come in but now it seems as though the laeft channel is alway a bit louder and I cant turn my monitors all the way down without turning them off and that's just too much of a pita to deal with. Anyone else suffered this problem. Like I said, this is the 2nd unit to fail in the same way. I would jump ship but I really need the 24 channels of TDIF right now. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks.

Sad. I had a MkII and an original, and not a single glitch.

It's not possible that this has something to do with your bundle assignments, Eric?

I've never even messed with the software side of the MOTU if that's what you mean. This just popped up oout of the blue and I actually first noticed it while listening to itunes. I dont know how anything software related could do that in every application. Especially in the details of it. I mean, the left channel is STILL on with the volume knob turned all the way off. THen it stays the same as I bring the knob back up as the right channel starts coming back to life. At a about 10 oclock, it sounds as though they are balanced back out but who really knows at this point. I surely dont feel like I can trust the stereo image at this point.

Yeah, that stereo image sounds pristine man... not! Crikey!

It's got me stumped now. Sorry Eric.
