828mk3 - No recording without input FX?

Please say it ain`t so!

I bought the 828mk3 under the impression that you could set up a latency-free monitoring via cue mix with, say, different compression and eq settings on snare and kick channels for a drummers hearing convenience - and while the drummer hears the eq`d monitoring signal still record the pure, uneffected signal into the DAW.
Now I work through the manual and stumble overn the sentence: "Input tab settings are global. Except for the reverb send, all settings you make in the Input tab are applied to the input signal before it goes anywhere else. (...) If you need to record a completely unprocessed input signal, do not apply any changes to it in the Input tab."

What a weird omission! In the Mackie Firewire Mixers you can choose what goes to the computer, signal pre or post eq, in the new Steinberg FW-Interfaces you can choose this too.
Will there be an software update that rectifies the situation? If not it would render the Mk3 useless for my situation :(

Don't have a 828mkIII yet, but I have a Mackie Onyx mixer with the firewire and on that mixer you definately CAN't do do anything to the signal going into the DAW. Its straight from the direct outs, so no inserts, Aux's, EQ's or nothing. So which Mackie mixers do you mean?
(sorry for not answering your question)

I was shocked too with the same fact  but with a 896mk3... see

Maybe if enough are speaking up, a software solution will become possible.

I was told it was a user request. Must be the Beta testers...

What an unbelievable oversight... well, MotU support confirmed to me it`s the way I feared:
"You are correct. The Input tab settings will be recorded to your DAW. (...) I understand this may not allow you to achieve exactly what you want to. However, this is the only way to pass an unprocessed signal to the DAW while placing effects on the monitored signal."
and:
"We are working constantly to improve our products. I can't say with any certainty what products or updates will be released in the future. However, I recommend submitting this request as well as any others you may have to our suggestion box. Here is the link:
http://www.motu.com/other/feedback/suggestions"

So please everybody write them with a feature request/suggestion - and while I`m at it:
a gate (maybe choosable instead of the "Leveler" effect) would make a way cool addition to the channel fx.

Ah well... seems like I`ll have to find a good deal on the new Steinberg interfaces, what a pity. I really liked and supported the MotU products until now :-(
