GENERAL WARNING - STEINBERG PRODUCTS

Just brought home Steinberg's, Groove Agent 2.

Looking forward to playing but, as I remove the clear plastic wrap I notice in very small print on the box. STEINBERG KEY REQUIRED - NOT INCLUDED.

The salesman at Manny's Music didn't point this out. So now, if I can find the time, its back to the store in Manhattan tomorrow. More than likely its just gonna have to sit around for a few days.

Oh, and it has to be purchased... Don't know the cost, but if you want to buy Steinberg products you'll have to buy their copy protection. One key apparently covers all their software.

So much for instant gratification.

The key is suposed to be in the box.

You say it's not?

Nevermind. Isee it's groove agent...
That makes sense now.

Post the key cost please.

No, the key IS NOT in the box. It's a pity not to have the choice between their key and an iLok. And what can I expect to buy from Steinberg, but one or two virtual instruments?

How can anyone expect any salesperson to know everything these days at the retail level? A number of occassions I had to school one salesperson one topic or another. I dislike the whole copyright protection sceme Steinberg is using now. Not that I use any of there products as it is, but purchasing a dongle will mean it wont be anytime soon.

I have a simple solution - I just don't buy anything that requires dongles. They may be good for the manufacturer, but not for the user. I vote with my wallet, and buy from a different developer. There is NOTHING on the market so important as to screw my computers up further with conflicting dongles...

good one.

that said, the man's got a point.
i'm very careful these days, i have a set of software tools that have proven very reliable and until i get a new computer i'm pretty much staying the way i am.

The key was 30 bucks. But the first thing that came to my mind when I saw I needed this was conflict between my iLock and this Steinberg thing. Well, here it goes ( fingers crossed)!

Oh, FM, you probably know this already, but SAM ASH aquired MANNY's years ago, Music row is basically, SAM ASH Row.

If I thought it would make a difference...

I think they're pretty attached to their key idea...

They could at least be told to print the key warning in larger letters on the box, but they know what they're doing. I might not have bought it if I saw that warning.

I wonder if you can have a key for your desktop and a second for your laptop? I feel like a glutton for punishment contemplating this idea.
