I was working for a few hours on a final mix almost finish and everything was going fine.
I hit rewind then play and got the spinning ball for about 20 seconds the song started playing ok then crack and one of the audio tracks drop out then crack and it comes back.I've tried to play it a couple of times but it keeps happening only in a different position.
I've undone the last couple of changes I made with no luck Now it doesn't matter what I click on I get a spinning ball and now I'm getting a back ground processing window that says drawing track overview.
This is really starting to worry me it happen a couple of weeks ago to another song that I've not been able to recover.
I was going to tell my client that I lost 1 of 10 songs but don't want to tell them I've lost 2.
What can I try to get these back?

Um do you have a back up?

Try repairing permissions etc and trashing the DP prefs file and see if that helps.

No that didn't work but now I get Audio playback has overloaded your computers processor.
All 8 of them?
So now I'm looking at the Audio Performance window and when I hit play the playback bar starts at nil then slowly climbs to peak and then thats when the audio cuts out, then drops to nil and starts over again.
There's nothing else running on this box but DP.
From Terminal I ran top while this was going on and the processors are sitting at 98% idle.
This song is only 4 audio 1 MIDI a couple of DP plugs and no VIs.

Just notice something unusual while watching Top.
While DP is stopped its PID is jumping from .3% to 89%
What could it be doing that's causing that?

512,1024 it makes no difference those are the only two options I have everything else is grayed out.
Is that normal?
What I don't understand is there is no other processes running on this Mac but DP and is maxing its self out when it should be sitting Idle.
And of course the pressure is now on to get some work complete.

You are using A PCI card is that right?

Yes I had to get a new card when I picked up the Mac pro.
This is the first session I've done with this Mac 10 songs recorded flawless.
First song I mixed started with this problem so I put it aside. 2 I've mixed ok now this is the 4 and its starting to act like the first.
I talked to MOTU they tell me they've never heard of this problem.
options are reload into a new project or un and reinstall DP.
Do you think it could be card related?

I don't have one but I've read about some problems (rare) with them.

Try unplugging the connections both from the interface and tower and plugging them back in again.

Maybe reinstalling the drivers if that doesn't work.

With your puter THIS shouldn't be happening.

What sample rate are you using?

Now I'm at a loss.
reload project, uninstall reinstall DP didn't work.
Same results with the new songs.
I loaded a 5.13 song in 6.01 off the same HD was working great 20+ tracks VIs plugs 10 windows open played around for 10/20min.
Hit rewind "unexpected quit" gone.
Try again tomorrow I think I might have to go back to the G4/5.13 to get some work done.

I have the same problem with audio recordings dropping out randomly. Haven't tried to track it down as it isn't critical to the current project (for live musicians) but annoying as hell.

When you get a chance during play back open the Audio Performance window.
See if its doing the same as mine where the play back bar slowly climbs to peak, audio cuts out then starts over again.

Hi Guys,

I'm experiencing this with DP7.22, on a Mac Pro Quad (Woodcrest) 2.66 with 5 Gb RAM, MadiXtreme and SSL Alpha-Link.

On a 48 Tracks of 24bit at 48KHz Project, (that yesterday was running fine!), all the sudden, today, after some editing I'm experiencing (only on some places in the songs) a rise of the Playback Meter, until the audio's start to drop out! Other places on the same song (it's a live recording) even with more tracks, the playback performance meter doesn't even move up...!

Weird huh?? Anyone knows what this might be?? Everything was running smooth and fine just yesterday!!!

Thanks.

Toni

Hi guys... Problem solved (for now) simply by copying the project to another Hard-Drive, and opening the exact same project from there!! Still weird, but this seemed to really have solved the problem... no more playback performance spikes and consequent audio dropouts.

The original Hard-Drive (where I copied the project from) is a 2TB Western Digital with 4 partitions. When I open the exact same project there, in spikes the playback engine and drops the audio files.

Now I need to know what the heck is going on...

Cheers,

Toni

Which WD drive? The "green" ones are known to sleep often and unexpectedly to conserve energy. Hardly worth the effort, IMO if it is going to screw things up. Could be a number of things as well: directory problems, or even DP. What if!
