Okay so... I had this track I was working on... saved it. saved a copy and combined the audio to another location to have it saved on my backup drive.
Closed the session...came back next day, DP UNEXPLAINABLY QUIT. What the heck? So i thought i'd figure it out by talking to you guys today...
tried a 2nd session... did the same thing when I get some work done, DOING IT TO A 2ND SESSION AS WELL!
I get the green bar as if it's loading the sequence up but then it just says DP Unexpectedly quit. Anything I can do to resurrect my sessions?S?!?!?1 thanks!

This really sounds like a corrupt plug-in issue. The tedious (but most expedient)
way to check is to pull ALL your components out of the Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
folder, then start DP and open the project or projects. Then start adding back in
plug-ins or groups of plug-ins until you come to the point where the project won't
open. That will tell you which ones are the culprit.
If it was a matter of missing audio files, DP would simply report that there are
missing audio files and prompt you to either look for them or disregard them.
Either way, the project would open anyway.
The other day I had a Kernel panic and had to reboot. Following that, I got
an error message upon trying to open ANY DP project - the message stated
that there was a problem with Waves. I took the Waves bundle out, opened a project,
closed and quit, then put the Waves bundle back in to my components folder, started DP and all was well.

I'll second that bad plugin autopsy. Just load the sequence from another new file.

David, it's scary that these files can just go ape sh*t (no offense, MM) just on a whim. I'm not feeling all that secure these days reading about all these white noise-outs, etc. Hope 6.1 makes an appearance soon.

Can you please explain how can you load sequence from a new project ?
thank you

Nope.

But pg. 674 will do a more thorough job than I can. DP 6 manual.
If you run into problems after that, just ask and someone should know.

Okay, I moved all the plugins onto the desktop out of the /plug-ins folder. And still.... the session try's to open then crashes. I also tried to open a new session... went to load, found the session file that's ••••ed... tried to load it and it crashed the new session as well. Anything else I can do?

Logic Studio 8.
Sounds to me like something is corrupt in your system, or your hardware. DP doesn't suck that bad.
Or does it?

Then the session file itself is corrupted for who knows what reason.
Time to start considering rebuilding it from scratch. We've all faced that
a few times in our audio careers.
You may be able to save the MIDI data from the session by launching DP while
holding down the shift key, that way it will start up without the audio
engine. Save the MIDI portion of the project (including the conductor
track) as a Standard MIDI File Type "1" (separate tracks), with a ".mid"
extension for the name (as in "MYSONG.MID").
Then quit DP, relaunch in normal mode, and import the Standard MIDI
File, and immediately save as a Digital Performer project with a new
name. Then work on it from that point.

.
Also try trashing your Fades folder. If not, then you COULD have a corrupted audio file too. Discovering WHICH one will certainly be no fun at all, but you can try loading the first half. If it passes, then load the other half, and so on.
Sorry to hear you are having these problems
But this, in no way, represents a typical day with DP.

Trying to load it won't work if the corrupt plug-in data is in the sequence you're trying to load.
Here's how to bring this baby home (it's saved my ass many times)
1. Open DP and put it in MIDI only mode.
2. Open the offending Project (if it still crashes in MIDI mode then you're stuffed and the following won't help you anyway)
3. Create a new sequence within the project with no plug-ins or anything in it, and play-enable it.
4. Disable any v-racks you have on.
5. SAVE!!!
6. Put DP back into audio & MIDI mode (ie. turn MAS back on)
7. Turn on your v-racks one at a time - if it quits then you'll know which v-rack is the offender. (SAVE if all is good so far)
8. Whilst still on your empty sequence, open the mixer window, and access the mixer window for the offending sequence without play-enabling it
9. Delete any plug-ins that you suspect might be causing the problem (for me it's usually my Powercore plugs or a VI that has had something go weird with the authorization)
10. Hold your breath and play enable the offending sequence - if it crashes reload DP and repeat steps 8-10 until you nail the sucker.
