MacBook Pro Versions

I'm wondering if there is any noticeable speed difference between the MBP 2.4 gig with 3 mb L2 cache and the MBP 2.5 or 2.6 with the 6 mb L2 cache. In other words, I presently have the MBP 2.4 and would like to know if I would gain much in the way of increased power using DP 6 with the higher L2 cache with the same 7200 rpm internal hard drive and the same 4 gigs of ram.

Thanks,
Tom

My MBP 2.4 Santa Rosa has 4MB Level 2 per processor... it's from 2007.
Upon careful reading, I see that though it's dual core, it's considered one processor,
so the total in mine is 4MB Level 2 cache.
Are you sure yours only has 2MB? Or maybe you meant 2x2.

I'm going by what is said on the Apple website. If you click on the Mac tab and then on the MacBook Pro tab and then the tech specs tab it says that the 2.4 Core 2 Duo models have a 3 mb cache and the 2.5 and 2.6 Core 2 Duo models have a 6 mb cache. I'm just trying to find out if the larger L2 cache makes much difference in the performance of DAW's.

Oh, I get it now. The NEWER 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo models have 3 MB shared between the 2 cores, whereas the older 2.4 Ghz models (like my 2007 one) have 4 MB. That's frequently done in MacLand, when a top-of-the-line processor speed becomes the middle-of-the-line as a faster one is released, its feature set is reduced, and the newest one is killer.

Sorry I can't help with your question in that case, only to observe that my older 2.4 has 33% more Level 2 than the new middle of the line 2.4, but only 66% as much Level 2 as the top-of-the-line 2.5 that you are interested in. But I would much rather have 6MB than 3MB Level 2. So I guess it depends on your finances and how many VI's you plan on running.
