Hi! I've just bought an 896MK III and there are no "fixed" swith beside the input to bypass the internal preamp. I have a Fern VT2 and an Avalon 737 and when I plug those unit and record voice, the sound is awful, it's like if I had 2 preamps at the sametime!!
Is there a way to bypass the 896 MKIII preamp like the old model? Nothing in the manual....
Thanks for your help!
Greg

Turn down the trim controls to their minimum gain. Make sure that the pre-amp outputs are connected to the 1/4" TRS portion of the 896mk3's analog inputs, not the XLR jacks.

Anybody have any opinions about the 896 mk3's built-in pres? How would you rate the conversion quality?
thanks,
Paul

Hey Greg,
Did turning down the trim work for your preamps?

What I've done is to use an Apogee D/A converter, and run it's outpus via light-pipe into my MOTU 896.
