Hey guys , I searched a bit but couldnt find an answer and different people are telling me different things.
Can I use the motu ultralite fw with pro tools le 7.3?
I have the mbox2 but I was going to sell it to my buddy.
I want to be able to track more inputs and a local store has the ultralite for about $399.
Of course the salesman says it will work with pro tools but others I know say it won't.
I am inclined to believe the others but I just want to make certain.
Thanks a lot for the help and sorry if this has been asked a million times.

You need to have a Digdesign or M-Audio interface for Pro Tools LE or M Powered. There are various scenarios where you can hook third party interfaces as additional inputs via the ADAT or S/PDIF connectors on your Digi interface, but you can't use those third party interfaces as stand alone PT converters. The salesman should be fired if you told him you wanted to use the Ultralite as your primary interface without one of the Digi/M-Audio products.

you will need to carry on using the MBox 2 im afraid.
the only use for the ultralite may be to use the SPDIF to add an extra 2 inputs to the MBox2.
If the option of taking it back is availabable... I would.
If your mate gives you some good money for the MBox and you can get the ultralite refunded you might be able to afford an old Digi-002 off ebay. That would suit you much better. Either that, or sell the MBox and buy logic....

Yes the most you will be able to do with the Mbox2 is to add 2 more channels (or 1 stereo) by using the spdif in from the Ultralite as well as the 2 analog mic/line inputs. PT will not see the Ultralite directly.
It is a bit of a shame that Digi won't let you mix and match audio interfaces like you can in DP - you could still use the Mbox as a dongle..... but I suppose it is all part and parcel of the limited functionality of LE.
Doesn't help your predicament much, but do hang on to the Ultralite if you are going to use DP. I get great mileage out of using both programs.
kind regards
Stephen

I don't think it's so much a limitation of LE; i think it's more one of the world's best anti-piracy devices really!
Logic you needed a key, now a serial, both can be worked around. But Pro Tools relying completely on digi-only hardware means there isn't really anyway to pirate Pro Tools!

Sales guys like that give guys like me a bad name...NO, it can NOT be used with ProTools. There are options if you need multiple inputs. Assuming that you're only using ProTools right now, buying the Ultralite means you'll need to purchase additional software as PT will not run on it. However the advantage is more inputs. Of course there are other interfaces to consider as well from Digi, MOTU, and other companies. So a few questions first........
-DO YOU NEED PRO TOOLS? I mean, do you have to be compatible with others?
-DO you own ANY other DAW software?
-You say you need more inputs, what are you tracking and how? How many inputs at a time do you need access to?

For someone with a PT LE user with a 003 (or something they want to continue using) does one of the new MOTU - MK3 units provide a straight forward way to monitor with FX? Or asked another way, can CueMix FX still control monitoring when the MK3 is being used as an ADAT input to a PT interface?
Somewhat related question: say I was using a MK3 unit (as above or as primary interface for another DAW). If I use an 8-Pre (or third-party boutique pre-amp) going into the MK3, can that signal be monitored with FX or can they only be applied to physical analog inputs on the MOTU?
Thanks

only if you plug in the MOTU hardware into a seperate computer, running both at the same time will confuse the mac.

You need ProFire Lightbridge - 34-in/36-out FireWire Lightpipe Interface... to use third party interfaces with lightpipe i/o.. which ultralite has not...
