828 MK3 update 1.06 ?

hi :)

i just got 828 MK3 and it drops the sound every so often when the computer ( CPU ) becomes loaded up to say 30% or so.

i am using Unibrain Fireboard Blue firewire adaptor which uses a Texas Instruments chipset. I am using a microsoft driver that Vista X64 automatically installed. I tried installing a firewire driver provided by Unibrain and then windows wouldn't see MOTU at all so i went back to microsoft firewire driver.

in search for a solution i went to MOTU site and they have some sort of a update 1.06 for the 828 MK3 but i can't figure out what this update actually is and whether it has anything to do with my problem ? If it is only an update for the EFFECTS then i certainly don't need it because i have no problem there. also i just got my MK3 from Zzounds 10 days ago and this update is dated JUNE so perhaps for me it wouldn't be an update at all ?

i still have some time to return this card to Zzounds if i can't figure out any solution but i like it overall, just wish it would stop droping sound ...

when it drops the sound the "adat" light comes on by itself ... and then after maybe 20 seconds it goes away and the sound comes back.

any pointers ?

help me !

:)

When you power on the interface, what is the firmware version number displayed on the LCD? If it's v1.06, then you don't need the update. If it's an earlier version, then you do need the update.

If you're not using the 828mk3's ADAT I/O, try disabling those banks in the MOTU Audio Console program. MOTU support says that will reduce FireWire bandwidth usage, and that could help audio playback problems.

Version 1.06 was initiated to correct improper implementation of the MS (Mid-Side) function on the various inputs as well as a maintenance release.
