Roland Fantom-X8 with DP 4

In my digital music class, we are using Digital Performer 4 with a Roland fantom-X8. We also have other keyboards also connected. When using the other keyboards when changing patches, the actual name of the patch appear. With the Fantom we only get numbers, it also only shows an available 128? patches i think. I know that the fantom has more patches then that. Is there a way to firstly get the name of the patches to show, and secondly get the other patches to show up on the list??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes - all that is missing is the patch file (.midnam) and the device entry (.middev).

MOTU supplies a file with the name of 'Fantom', though I don't know if this is the same as the X8. If you want to try it, quit DP, go to AudioMIDI Setup, delete the X8, and create a new device by selecting 'Roland' and 'Fantom' from the popups. Then restart DP, and select 'Fantom' as the MIDI output - you should then see the patchnames and banks.

If the X8 has a different set of banks and patchnames, you can probably find a .midnam file for it somewhere through Google. You can use CherryPicker to create the .middev entry for you, or just edit the Roland.middev file to add an entry for the X8.

Sorry, a little late on this one . . . but if you register for BackStage at http://www.rolandus.com, they've got a patch script builder which will do all this .middev and .midnam work for you. You can even tell it what expansion boards you have installed. Works for most of the recent Fantoms, XVs, Junos, etc. Very slick!
