best plug-ins for DP??
Hi there
Other than the usual suspects such as Waves, UAD, In your opinion, what would be a great choice on top plug-ins for DP users, let's say like the McDSP or Massey plug-ins that are made only for Protools ??
Thanx for sharing

Re: best plug-ins for DP??
That's kind of a tough question.
Are you looking for plugins that are most compatible and cooperative with DP6.x, or are you looking for "the best plugins"?
I have to put Altiverb in the kitty for a start as one that is both compatible and high quality. I can't speak for versions above 6.1x.

Re: best plug-ins for DP??
Stillwell plugs - http://www.stillwellaudio.com Some of the very best 'vibey' plugs out there at any price - EQs, compressors, an algorithmic reverb, a limiter, etc. Very well thought-out in a very musical way - i.e. one compressor has a built-in "parallel" button for parallel compression sans the Aux tracks, and the reverb has a built-in gate for that good ol' 80s goodness! And they are VERY reasonably priced. Download the demos. I got them on every other track now, great great stuff.

Also AudioDamage plugs (especially Dubstation, but also Ricochet, Fluid, Liquid, Vapor, use those a LOT) http://www.audiodamage.com/ , and don't forget the free Massey tape AU. http://www.smassey.com/au.html Between that and DPs own you'd have pretty much all bases covered at excellent quality and a very low cost.
Other stuff I use a lot (but is a lot pricier) are Abbey Road plugs (Brilliance pack and TG compressor/limiter), Sonalksis Elemental Bundle (great gate! very clean yet smooth EQ and compressor), the whole Sound Toys suite, Softube (Vintage Amp Room, Tape Delay, most awesome Spring Reverb !!!!, Metal Amp Room.)

Re: best plug-ins for DP??
Kubi has made some great suggestions for plugins in terms of functionality. There was a thread someone put up about the Abbey Road Brilliance Pack doing something funny with DP, but I tried their demos and the plugins are terrific.

If may say, It won't get a lot better than MW EQ as far as EQ is concerned.

Re: best plug-ins for DP??
Oooh, I beg to differ. Take a clean track with nice high-end information, i.e. well-recorded drum kit. Crank the highs more than 6dB in MW EQ. Repeat with Sonalksis. Repeat with Stillwell 1973. Call me in the morning.Dwetmaster wrote:If may say, It won't get a lot better than MW EQ as far as EQ is concerned.

Or do the same with a nice DI electric bass track, only this time crank the lows for that pillow-y low end. Start with MW EQ, then try Sonalksis, then try Stillwell VibeEQ...
Just sayin'. Nothing wrong with MW EQ, a solid performer, but for me there are better EQs out there - Sonalksis for clean, Stillwell, Abbey Road etc. for 'better than clean.' But to each his/her own....
Re: best plug-ins for DP??
To both posts, I'll add that certain fx work better on certain projects, too. Sometimes you can just nail something almost "by accident" with one plugin and it becomes the hero of the day for that reason. Different day, different project, different user? Different results. It's nice to have a choice, I think.Kubi wrote:Oooh, I beg to differ. Take a clean track with nice high-end information, i.e. well-recorded drum kit. Crank the highs more than 6dB in MW EQ. Re: best plug-ins for DP??
+ 1 for Altiverb, the best plug-in in quality...
Re: best plug-ins for DP??
And right you are - of all my EQs, MW EQ ended up surgically removing unwanted resonances best in a track today. Nice to have choices, indeed, especially when they include a Q of up to 16.Frodo wrote:To both posts, I'll add that certain fx work better on certain projects, too. Re: best plug-ins for DP??
I agree, the MW EQ is very good but I recently demoed SSL's X-EQ for Duende. I used it for about 30 minutes and bought it.Dwetmaster wrote:If may say, It won't get a lot better than MW EQ as far as EQ is concerned.
That thing sounds amazing!
Their X-Comp is just as good and I recommend both for anyone that owns Duende.
Great family and friends!
