Some newb q's

Hi all,
Just bought a new 896mk3. I must confess to having a lot of trouble understanding it, it seems to have a different "philosophy" than other hardware I have used before (mostly m-audio).
I am having trouble with some concepts I am hopeing you might be able to help me with...thanks in advance.
First is volume. The output from this thing is off the charts. I have 3 stereo pairs of monitors, six Mackie HR824 speakers in all, hooked up to the MAIN OUTS, ANALOG 1-2, ANALOG 3-4. Playing Windows Meida Player will blow the doors off the neighbors houce with the output set to anything higher than 2. If I go to the output tab in in the CueMix FX console I can of course put "MONITOR" on that output and use the master volume to turn it down. But this seems rather odd. My first question is where do I set the output levels for an individual speaker pair? I would like to be able to set one pair at level X, another at level Y, and the third at level Z for example. The placement of my monitors requires that they have differing volumes.
Second question is how do I route software inputs to more than one output? The website seemed to inidcate that this was easily doable. I can get Windows Media Player to come from my MAIN OUTS, or the ANALOG outs, but not out of both at the same time. In my DAW software (SONAR), I can do this of course, but I would have thought this would also be doable with the basic unit and with the Cuemix control panel.
Last but not least, is there a tutorial on how MIXES work? I RTFM, but it wasn't much help. I take it these are akin to "AUX" buses used by m-audio. Are all MIX BUSES active all the time, unless the output is set to "Disabled"? Why not allow assigment to more than one output on a bus?
