Can I Use an 896HD and 896 Together

I have an 896HD and want to use my other 896 (not HD) to gain 16 channels of I/O. Can I daisy chain the two units via fire wire to achieve this? Will they sync via fire wire or do I need AES or something?

Depending on what Sample Rate you use, I would recommend hooking your old 896 via lightpipe to the 896HD. That way you get cuemix on both as one interface. I also recommend getting a dedicated wordclock to sync both. I pretty content with BLA's microclock. only a few hundreds of $

Thanks for the info. I have been tracking 24/96. Will the lightpipe hook up method limit me to 48K or is it just used for sync?

Too bad...
You have a limit of 4 tracks via lightpipe @ 96k
You'll have to go FW for both but no Cue mix on your old 896. you could use the AES to monitor the whole 896 in the 896HD's cue mix but you won't be able to do a separate mix of the 896 as the 896HD will only see it's AES out. Better than nothing though...

I stand on my advice of syncing everything through a separate word clock though.
