I have the Mpatch2 , nice clean sound. Needs power to use the headphone jack (although the monitor path remains passive). No on/off switch for the power, however, so if you only want to use the phones occasionally you'll have to plug/unplug the power, or just leave it on like I do, as my power strip isn't greatly accessible.

Thanks bdr, too bad they don't make a Mptach2 w/ a nano type design.
I've read complaints about the power for cans causes some noise?

I haven't heard anything that bothers me noise wise but I'm not really doing critical listening.

Thanks for the info, budget wise it should do the trick.
A gold point attenuator would be ideal, but the budget isn't cutting it . http://www.goldpt.com/sa2x.html
