Greetings -

I just picked up a used MIDI Express XT Parallel port Mac/PC that didn't come with a manual. Can anyone provide a link or access to one? I'd be happy to make a copy to post/share as a pdf if that would be helpful or appropriate. Thanks!

Hi

There is no PDF manuals for the MOTU Hardware.
You can buy MOTU Hardware manuals here:

Thanks for the quick reply jarok. Unfortunately, I did not see a manual for the specific item I bought - the MIDI Express XT Parallel port.

Do you (or anyone else) know if the USB MIDI Manual would be "close enough"? The site says that manual is for the following products:

* MIDI Express XT (USB)
* micro express (USB)
* MIDI Express 128
* micro lite

I figured the Parallel Port version is discontinued, hence my posting here. Maybe someone with this product and manual could give us an idea how different the two manuals and products might be from each other.

All posts and suggestions welcome. Thanks again.

Call up MOTU. They might not have them available on the site, but maybe they have some available. They could also tell you how similar the old manual is to the new — perhaps the USB manual would suffice.

Thanks carry. I sent them an email over the weekend and will follow up with a call later today or tomorrow.

The only manual you should need is the one for the ClockWorks utility, which is available as a PDF ... can't remember where it is on the MOTU website but it may be part of the "SETUP_MIDI_2.51" driver download.

What in particular did you need to know?

P.S. You're right, the manual for sale on the website doesn't cover the older parallel version. Save your money.

Thanks for the reply jsr. I'll look for the Clockworks pdf on the site. How is that different from (or similar to) the manual that shipped with the product?

"What in particular did you need to know? " - Nothing just yet. The unit hasn't arrived, but I thought I'd get a jump on things by reading the docs while waiting. I've got experience with MIDI routing - my old MSB+ finally gave up the ghost last week - so I'll be looking for the particular ways the Express performs its routing functions.

As luck would have it, Barrett at MOTU CS says they have a few manuals for the parallel port version of the Express lying around. Unless someone comes up with a different/better idea, I'll fork over the $15 he's asking, after I play with the unit a bit.

Many thanks to all who replied to this post. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions once I get up and running.

If you like MIDI routing and other MIDI tools check out MidiOx, Google it. It a great Freeware program, I've never used my Clockworks. MidiOx allows me to Name my ports and do Patching by a GUI. It even works with Vista 64 and has a lot more features than I could ever understand.
