Can DP6 MIDI learn?

Hi there.
Upgrading to DP6 for a couple of plugins doesn't really make sense to me.
But tell me that the new DP can MIDI learn cc parameters (like Ableton does) for its MAS plugins and VIs and I will upgrade...
please....come on.... tell me it does....
cheers

I guess it doesn't. Of course, I'm not really sure what you mean by "MIDI Learn." If you explain it, I'll tell you if I know of a way to do it.

I have the same question as Shooshie. What do you mean by "MIDI learn?"

:D Glad it's not just me. 20+ years I've been doing this professionally, and here I am a beginner again! So, someone learn me MIDI, learn me quick, learn me without the learning stick. ;)

parts of the DP 5 VI's could MIDI learn, but they were incomplete, and none of the plugins had that option, only the VI's, open modulo in DP5, right click on the tune knobs and it will offer "learn MIDI" as an option, select that and then move any MIDI controller, the controller will now be attached to the parameter knob.

only some controls work, others do not, modulo can assign the tune or frequency controls but not the hp/lp/bp/br filter select buttons, their system for plugin control is just non existent.

MIDI learn is the ability to, often right-click, on a plug in parameter (ideally, ANY paramter) to set it in "learn" mode for an instant.. and then turn a knob on your MIDI controller (any knob) and the program will register that knob as controlling that paramter.

it's the best way to quickly assign and re-assign controllers for realtime control quickly.

DP really really really (really) needs this ability.

I know it does this on the mixing board, but not plug-ins I guess. I have an AlphaTrack that I use for plug-ins sometimes.

Doesn't DP do this? It certainly does with some plugins.

may be plugin dependant. i just picked up the modelling suite from AAS.. and the standalone versions of those programs do it, i haven't tested that inside DP yet...

although, i have it open right now and just layed down a String Studio track.. so, let me test now..

....

hmm.. no.. sadly, it doesn't not seem to work... the option is there (right click a parameter in string studio and select "MIDI learn") but DP seems to break the functionality...

i'll have to poke around some more..

I've had problems making this work in DP, it's a badly needed enhancement. even when the controls do learn, they dont keep their assignments.

MIDI Learn has been around forever. Just search Google and you'll get all sorts of information about it.

Hi James

Have you tried your AlphaTrack in DP6? Is it working any better for plug-ins than it did in v5 please? Or do we still have the binary behaviour?

Thanks

Maybe we should combine this with the PT vs. DP thread? Will PT ever learn to do MIDI :)
