tried a simple test: recorded a MIDI channel (input coming from a waldorf synth, playing a bass drum pattern) into one 48khz/24bit audio channel in cubase, asio direct monitoring active.

when trying to play back both the audio and the MIDI at the same time, its clearly obvious that there is a small delay between both...

i though that the delay was only possible to occur in monitoring, but not at recording/playback?? its even stated in the 828 mk3 manual somewhere...

If you recorded the signal through one of the 828mk3's analog inputs, then keep in mind that an A/D converter does take a short amount of time to convert the incoming signal. So that probably accounts for the time difference between the MIDI tracks and the recorded notes. Also, most DAWs have options for shifting recorded audio data by a set number of samples in order to account for the converter latency. If Cubase has such a feature, you should check to make sure that it's set properly.

You have that backwards - yes there will be delays during recording/playback

But there will be zero latency during Monitoring.

well, i guess the best setup for me who's running a home studio with few hardware synths and sound modules is to use direct monitoring, and then record/apply fx on the daw.. we will see...
