Multiple 828 Mk II USB under Vista

Hi,

As I needed to increase the audio inputs for my system, I bought another 828 Mk II USB. After installation I can sometimes see that the 2nd 828 Mk II is available, but most of the time Vista locks, Ableton Locks, MOTU Audio Console locks and almost invariably within minutes.

I know both 828's are working as if I boot up with only either 1 of them turned on the system is OK.

As installation of MOTU software leaves great chunks still lying around, I am now at the point of wiping Vista and starting again.

has anyone any serious suggestions on what I can do. Having only 1 audio input device does not meet my needs.

Appreciate any help, thanks and kind regards,

Hi britesc!

Are you working on a laptop or on a desktop?

Cause I've tried to use a 828 mk 2 usb on my laptop with vista home edition but noway...I can't make it work...

How did you do that? can you post your configuration?

Hi,

Intel Dual Core 4Gb Ram Workstation, running Vista Home Premium and Ableton Live 7 Studio
1 x MTPAV (USB)
2 x MidiExpress 128
2 x 828 Mk II (USB)

other stuff...

I can use 1 828 but not 2.

regards

Problem Identified but...

From digging around it appears that Windows (XP, VIsta etc) will only really support about 10 or so channels via USB.
Therefore trying to setup 8 from the first 828 then more than 2 from the 2nd 828 leads to meltdown.
So my advice, disregard any of the bullsh•• from MOTU about being able to expand the number of 828 USB's and stick with 1.

I am now converting to PCI-424 driven kit as this appears to work, but is 10 times the price. Clever...

PS MOTU tech support sucks.
