828 mk1 Setup Help Needed

I am setting up the 828mk1 for the first time on a Winxp Laptop. I have installed Driver 3.6.7.3. The mk1 is functional however, i can't get satisfactory performance under 512 Samples Per Buffer. This makes latency a bit high.
I am testing using Reaper and Wavelab.
Questions:
Should Cuemix be functional? When i try to run CueMix windows returns "No MOTU Audio Devices that support CueMixDSP found".
What is the correct setup then for monitor/playback.
Any assistance with this initial setup would be appreciated. Perhaps someone whom would have experience with the 828 could offer some suggestions.
TIA/m687bc

just unplug the 828 from your computer before you load the drivers, turn off after load and plug in the firewire then turn 828 on and restart computer, them cross fingers and begin to pray.
My 828 works great, but it was a little temperamental getting it to marry my computer. I had to change to a Texas Instrument chipset firewire PCI.
That was a couple computers ago and the PCI has traveled with each new computer so I don't know if the newer computers even needed that card for sure.
I also recently bought a 828 Mk2 so I could get rid of my extra MIDI interface device and now I'm going through the same battle trying to get the computer and the 828 II to work together without problems.
Good luck

I've got the 828 running pretty smoothly. But, would like to determine the problem so I can lower the buffer settings. Once I get the kinks out I will in a similar fashion to your setup run the 828 with my Event EZbus mixer VIA ADAT. The EZbus will give me MIDI facilities, additional I/Os, stand alone, and potentially control surface functions.
Do you Kaptain have any recommendations for settings of WindowsXP that may help to lower latency? Perhaps from your experience.
thnx
