Which Firewire?
I've ran this past MOTU Tech Support with no response todate so I thought I'd throw it up here. Which Firewire? Understanding that the TI chip is desired over the VIA cip. The single purpose card is better than a multi function card. Which should I use in my new DAW build. On-board Firewire port, PCI Firewire card, or PCIe Firewire card. The mother board is an Intel Extreme DX48BT2 that uses a TI FW chip. Thanks,
Hi.
I've been using a Siig
http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=NN-E20012-S2
for over a year, without a single hiccup. (828 mkII & Cubase 4).
It's Pci-e, with 2 ports, 400Mbps speed & TI chipset.

I noticed this page while I was searching for the link for you earlier
http://www.siig.com/Drivers.aspx?pn=NN-E20012-S2
..you're quite right .. it doesn't mention win 64 bit anywhere .. but presumably (as with the OS's shown) the drivers are supplied by windows itself ??
Also spotted this 64 bit board
http://www.siig.com/Drivers.aspx?pn=NN-83M012-S2
..this does seem to support 64 bit OS's .. and has drivers ..
and now I feel I'm probably just adding to the confusion, throwing in links to gear that I know nothing about ..
..maybe you really need advice from somebody who, like yourself, is brave enough to be using a 64 bit OS ... so I'll quietly butt out !!!

Yes you might say I'm crazy, my parts supplier thinks so even while he takes my money. Not only do I run the latest OS and applications the system I've just about completed is:
Intel Extreme Quad Core QX9770
Intel Extreme Mother Board DX48BT2
4gig PC3 12800 DDR3
3TB WD Hard drive Raid
nVidia 9600GT
Dual: Dual Layer DVD drives
Dual: Multiple I/O Card Readers.
Thank You for you input and research, the last card looks good, is a FW 800 that is backwards compatable but needs a 9 to 6 adapter cable and does have drivers for Vista 64.
I'm just trying to get the best input with the least problems, because once I rackmount the computer I don't want to keep dragging it in an out. It's a pain.
Thanks

It's not alway good to be the first kid on the block with the newest toys, I just spent 4 hours trying to get Windows Vista 64 to load on Raid 0, it wanted to install Boot on Raid 0 and System files on Raid 1, I got around it by disconnecting Raid 1 during the install. No more Vista argument, work-in-progress.

Will this work with a 2408 MkII? I bought one off eBay with a PCI-324 which will not work on my MB. I'm looking for a more cost effective way of using the MkII without having to shell out another $300 for a PCIx-424.
Cubase Studio 4
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor
Intel DP35DP Motherboard
4 gb DDR2 ram
Windows XP SP3
Thanks, Dave
