No sound out in Vista Ultimate with my 828 MKIII -> FIXED

Post by dagnilsen »

This is really strange. On my laptop everything is working perfectly.
(I use Cubase 4 with the latest updates)
But on my main DAW (only the hardware is different) I have no sound out.
I use a Firewire card with Texas Instruments chipset.

It seems that everything is correct setup (as on my laptop) but there is no sound out on any of the outputs. Sometimes after a while there is a loud squeal on the outputs (also when not playing anything).

Any suggestions? Please help!

Correction:
I have 2 firewire cards on my main DAW. One TI which is integrated on the motherboard and one VIA PCI interface.

My MOTU 8pre is not working on the TI, but is is working on VIA.
My MOTU 828 MKIII is not working on any of them.

Does anybody know if the MOTU interfaces has some kind of feature which disables outputs if the firewire card is not good enough?

Well, I will buy the Delock PCI Express Firewire A 3+1 Port card and see if it works with that.

Best regards,
Dag

Did you set up your sound device in Windows control panel?

Hello,

I don't quite understand.
It is not necessary to setup anything in Windows (as I know of).

I didn't do anything on my laptop (just installed the driver).

Dag

Hello,

When I installed the new firewire card and opened the Device Manager I thought Ohh Noooo. It had a NEC chipset (many in this forum and MUTU strongly advice not to use it).

But I was in for a surprise. It is working perfectly. In fact it is the best card ever :D Cubase is running perfectly with the buffer size set to 96!!

So finally I can go on with the real deal: Make some music!!
