Adding internal storage

I want to add some much needed storage to my G5 but have some questions...

MY SETUP:

Dual 2.0 PPC G5
Two 275gb External Drives
DP + Altiverb + several VIs

MY QUESTIONS:

1) Was my G5 designed to hold three internal drives or two?

2) Will I be able to use these drives in a MacPro when I upgrade?

3) Is there any downside to buying one 1tb drive instead of two 500gb drives?

4) Any advice on which drives would be best used for what (i.e.: "Put your VIs on the internals because _____ but record on the externals because ____")?

Many thanks!

I've heard that the 500 GB drives are the most reliable and that the terabyte technology isn't too robust yet.

Anyone know more about this?

1) 2

2) They should be SATA drives. Check the Apple site.

3) You'll have a lot more space on a 1T drive plus whatever your second drive is. If you go with 2 500GB drives, one could be for Time Machine and if the other fails you're in good shape.

4) Most VI's insist on being on the boot drive. Where to record is up to you. Super intense projects with lots of audio might be better served if you split the files between two drive (not as much head searching for audio demands). But it would have to be a pretty intense project. Most projects are fine on a single drive.

Thank you both!
