Your rack doesn't look too shabby either, Gary. :D

The tests are flawed from the beginning...because the mic they are using is NOT a reference microphone, sigh

Coloured, eh?
I wondered about that, Brad.

Let me guess - they should've used Earthworks?

Not at all true because it's in comparison to each other. This test was to eval the color sound of the preamps only, not a measurement test. The same equipment was used on each test and levels were carefully checked.

I think it's a VERY cool idea and really respect them for doing it. I wish more engineers would take the time to do this for us cause it seems most sales people are a too lazy I guess.

I haven't the time to really dig into this test right now, but I hope to soon. I find these kinds of shoot-offs fun. And, scientific or not (this one seems pretty fair to me), I always glean some viewpoint from them.

the test is cool and i respect the time and effort that was required to do this.
but are you hearing the differences of the preamps or the different ways the mp3 data compression affects different examples of preamps.
I am in the market for a new pre and I will not try to make any kind of decision or purchase of a pre based on mp3 examples.
and I try not to make decisions based on what I read on the internet as well lol (it's hard to to make these kind of decisions intelligently either way)
a pre that I am hearing good things about is :
http://www.chandlerlimited.com/products/tg2.php
has anyone here actually used or heard it in the real world?

thanks

Well if there is a diff from compression then that's interesting too and in the end important these days considering the way people buy from mp3's.

I would like to have been there but it still seems fair to have this available. I didn't have time to download all the pre's and just took a few for samples starting with the API 512, VSI, m5 and P1.

I liked the ringing high end jangle of the m5 but the purity of the VSL so far.

Hey. I've heard some Earthworks stuff, up close and personal. It don't get much closer to reality.
