One of the things I was excited for with M5 2 was its seemingly expansive drum possibilities. Aside from the Loop Lab, I was hoping it would also be useful as a general drum sampler (to use with one shot hits). However, I am having mixed results...

Some questions/observations:

- Any way to make it so that drum hits I drag in are always/automatically set to "One Shot" mode?

- Also, I'm noticing that the trigger mode isn't saving with my project (using in Reaper). Everytime I re-open the project, all samples are back to "None" in the Loop Type - frustrating!

- I wish I could see the name of the selected sample without having to hit the Info tab.

- In the review in SOS magazine, they said that M5's effects can be used per-keygroup, but it seems this isn't truly the case? IOW, each keygroup cannot use the FX section independently; there is only one discreet effect per group (under the filter), otherwise it's a matter of juggling Aux/Insert/Master etc... is this correct? Again, bummer!

- So due to the above, is it possible to use each Part individually for each sample? I was hoping I could just drag a sample onto a Part, but this makes it a loop/phrase and therefore I lose all control as far as the Info tab and List Editor. Once again, bummer!

Unfortunately this adds up to a lot of "bummers" for using M5 for drums. Any help or advice would be much appreciated, I realize I am still learning...

I'll take the lack of responses to be a "no"?

Which goes for me also, as I gave up on using Mach Five as a drum sampler. So aside from using its library "rompler" style, I'm also using it for its Rex capabilities: I love how I can drag either a MIDI or audio loop from a Rex file into the arrangement!

Just these two functions have justified the purchase, as now I no longer need (nor want) Sampletank 2XL or Dimension Pro. One program got rid of two others - I like that!

No, but you can select multiple samples and use Batch > Set Loop Type > One Shot.

Loop Type is saved in the sample (not the preset) – make sure you're using Save Preset and Samples, not just Save Preset.

The keygroup name is displayed along the right side of the window (between the Layer & FX sections). When you drag & drop a sample into M5, the keygroup name is the same as the file name; you can also rename the keygroup as desired in the List Editor.

Correct, the only per-keygroup FX slot is the one near the filter (though you can also apply FX destructively in the Waveform Editor with right-click > DSP). Insert FX are shared between and can be turned on/off for all keygroups in the preset, Part/Preset are part/preset-level FX, Aux FX are shared between all parts and can be adjusted for each keygroup/part, and Master FX are for all parts.

Yes, it's possible. Instead of dragging a sample onto the part, select the part and drag the sample onto the keyboard. Then set all of the parts to receive the same MIDI channel and save it all as a performance.
