My Mic Is Buzzing???

A friend of mine gave me a Rode NT1000 mic the other day because he said it no longer worked. I figured I might be able to get it working again.

What it does is buzz. It has a low and high frequency buzz whenever phantom is applied. It still picks up audio and records normally, just with that added maybe 5-10db of buzz.

The funny thing is, if you touch the top of the mic around the metal grill, the buzzing will stop and almost completely go away. It's almost as if there is some sort of grounding issue.

Anyone have any ideas on how one might go about fixing such an issue?

Thanks,
Rainmaker

Like a ground lift maybe....

wonder if it was dropped at some point...Find someone who knows electronics see if they can isolate that buzz...

Have you tried other leads?

Or the earth wire inside the mic has come off.

Very easy to fix.

Yeah that's what I thought. Simply open the mic and solder it back.

I wish I had friends like that...
