- select all tracks you want new takes for
- hit the "w" key twice to group them
- add your take to any one of them; the rest will automatically add takes as well.
- (optional) hit "w" key once to ungroup them again.

Kubi,
Which window are you in? I tried this in TO, SE and the Mixer. None of them worked. Is there a modifier key for this command?

TO. Select tracks and double-tap the w key, with no modifiers.
If that doesn't work, check your command window, maybe you changed something?

command-shift-G

Command-Shift G creates a real group with name and everything. Double-tapping the w key creates a temporary group.
BTW, small correction - you don't have to select anything. In any window, double-tapping the w key will temporarily group the visible tracks. So it'll group all tracks in the TO window, and it'll group whatever tracks you choose to show in the SE, Graphic Editor and Mixer.
Whatever temp group you choose will remain in effect even if you switch windows, until you single-tap the w key again, thereby erasing the temporary group.
Works like a charm here, and is a great time-saver.

If your tracks are record enabled, you can simply use the "new take" key command. Go check in your command window for the key binding. I've got mine customized so it won't be useful for you.
There are a few commands for managing takes. (New, Next Previous, Delete)
I use them all the time. I wish there was one for duplicate take though

For record-enabled tracks, these are the defaults:
ctrl-opt-n creates a new take
ctrl-opt-down arrow switches to the next take
ctrl-opt-up arrow switches to the previous take

Ha! There's the gotcha ••“ the tracks have to be
record enabled!
I couldn't figure out why the shortcuts didn't work for me until I saw your post with that crucical bit of information.
It really sucks that ctrl-opt-down/up arrow won't work while I'm editing, for quickly selecting among takes. I'd rather not have any tracks record enabled during editing and mixing...
Hopefully a more ubiquitous solution will come with DP 6...
Thanks again!

BTW, shouldn't this thread be in the Digital Performer forum rather than General Recording?

Track Grouping is The Answer. Explore it in your DP Manual.

Not here. Be sure the tracks are actually grouped (i.e. if you select one, all are selected, etc.) Your "w" tapping may not be working for some reason... so yes, check if they get grouped at all when you double-tap w.

Always seems to be another trick just around the bend in DP. DP = DeeP. Have fun!
