4.6 - is it worth it yet?...

...or should we wait until 4.61 update comes out?

It seems that a lot of us are having troubles with a
wide range of *bugs* using different kit.

I personally have had the snap crackle and pop issues, though I have been using an Edirol FA-101 with SoundFlower and Reason. I tried the AgDev solution the other day and it worked perfectly for a bit, but then over the last couple of days, the GUI started going mental and audio would just drop out.

I've been pouring through the various 4.6 experiences on this forum, and I have to say I'm a touch confused by it all(...should I do this or this or that!). Is it Tiger 10.4.2, is it 4.6 or AgDEvs?

What is every ones opinion? I just want to make music!! I feel like I'm trying to administer one of Cisco Systems network servers (with fairly limited knowledge) at the moment!

Subject to opinion.
It's the most stable setup I've had to date with DP.
There's always bugs I suppose but I for one an very happy with it :)
No deal breakers for me

hmm interesting.

are you using AgDevs or straight shift clicking multiple interfaces in DP...if the latter do you get popping and clicking?

thats good to hear,

does anyone use Soundflower? when I'm streaming sound from SuperCollider into DP i get the regular clicking and popping that many have been complaining of late. I just noticed it with Reason the other day. At the moment my brain is whiring around different ideas of what it could be.

Apologies for the simpleton questions - I'm a newbie to DP in case you hadn't have guessed! I'm just trying to eliminate possible causes. I've found that DAWs have a sweet spot when configuring the OS and hardware setup, I suspect that this is the case with DP4.6 and OS X (10.4.2). The reason that you don't seem to have these problems would suggest that you have have found it.

Have you got any particular tips?

What the Audio Performance meter look like when you get clicks/pops? Is it happening even with nothing redlining?

DP4.6..is the best upgrade for me..so far..
The best Rewire support I have seen to-date..
as I use Live 5.0, Melodyne...etc. with DP.

There is always a risk when using third-party
software not tested or certified by MOTU...just my
2 pennies ;-)

Slipstream...how do you like your Tascam 1082
Firewire Interface? I have the same unit with my Mac
MDD 867(2G Ram)...hardly a crash with DP 4.6..running
many plugs including Waves 5, Kontakt2, all the Moog plugs..
Absynth, Pro 53, etc...

Go for it, it's probably the best DP version since OSX

I'm not too sure - dont think so. I did a bit more reading last night...

It seems to stop clicking when transport isn't stopped (ie. DP is playing) when using the old shift clicking of multiple drivers in the Hardware setup

Anyhow, even though the jury is still out for AgDEvs, I gave it another go making sure that there were no conflicting Audio Bundles and all the track output/inputs we cleanly selected again. I managed to have a good few hours for pristine audio until I went to bed humming what I had been working on! needless to say I slept better!

what gives eh?

I like 4.6.

The only issue I have had with 4.6 was with pitch correction. And what happened there is that a small section of a track which was undergoing pitch correction didn't have any pitch data for some reason. It was a single mono vocal, and the rest of the track was fine. But nothing I tried would cause the pitch data to appear in that small section. Overall it didn't affect anything, but it was an odd behavior.

Si, it's the AgDev. There is a bug which we pretty well documented about a month ago. Maybe three weeks. I took the AgDev off my system and I'm STILL suffering from it. I'm going to do a complete re-install of my OS and DP in a day or so. The weirdness only gets worse.

OH... and I think that once a file has been opened under an AgDev, it's permanently corrupted. Loading to another file doesn't fix it. It's in the Chunks. Some haven't had any trouble. But for me it was a nightmare, and it was specifically related to the AgDev.

and if you install 4.6 and save something then revert back like i did 4.52 wont open a 4.6 file
it is not good.. too risky and why should i have to reinstall my whole system to get it to possibly work. there was not alot wrong with 4.52 i never had any hassles but 4.6 was the only update i have installed scince the early 4.x's that i personally found had a major problem.. all other updates i stuck with but 4.6 was just stupid on a powerbook and no one ever told me how to fix the cpu spikes effectively.
I mean 1 track and cpu spiking is a major bug
