Awesome... going to read up right now! Tons of new features on this thing! WOW!!!

I look forward to working with this piece of kit in 2008!

I like the programmable front panel volume control - assignable to as many output channels as needed (as in 5.1 control!)

Very nice indeed and there are some new plugins on and i wonder if they're going to be included in DP6 :D
Creativity, some digital stuff and analogue things that go boom. crackle, bits of wood with strings on them that go twang

Didn't I just mentions something like this last week? Now if they can open up the thing to allow 3rd party plugs to run on it that would be the ticket! I will jump on this and DP 6 if I can get past the FW problem with my Liquid Mix!
Does anyone out there use a LM with a FW PCIe card that is having good results with a FW audio I/O? Please PM me if you know because I'm looking to get this thing as soon as they release it! What's nice is you can have EQ and dynamics on your inputs... Plus it has sends and returns on the inputs.
Nice one MOTU!
Thanks!

Stoooopid questions numero one...

Is there a way to gain access to this onboard DSP from DP, ya know, for us PPC guys? Like a UAD-1 sort of situation?

I am assuming that the answer, without patch cables, is no.

Doesn't look like it. I think the Metric Halo interfaces offer this functionality, with the new Console Connect software. You can use onboard DSP and send it back to your computer via the firewire cable - no additional cable connections needed. Another cool thing is that the control console can show up as a plug-in in DP (and other DAWs), so you can store settings with a project.

FYI, they're about to update their interfaces. The new versions will include a basic production-oriented DSP set at a lower price than the current DSP models (with an option to buy more DSP modules if needed.) One thing the current MH DSP lacks is reverb - nice that MOTU includes it in the mk3.

The 828 mk3 looks great, and I hope MOTU does well with it. Since I want more preamps, I'm holding out to see what the updated Metric Halo 2882 looks like - it has 8 pres. Otherwise, I'll be seriously considering the 828 mk3.

Nothing new here... the two "sends" are really signal spits from the two mic inputs. To return the signal, it must be fed to another input... just like the MkII I believe. Not complaining, just clarifying. :D

I love my 828 MkII combined with an old Lexicon for tracking 'verb. The only thing missing for me is the multi-channel level control for surround monitoring, but I plan to go with a dedicated consumer-style receiver for surround, which will handle monitor level control while serving a dual-purpose in that it will provide real-time Dolby decoding on tracks I encode with Compressor.

I have to admit the MkIII's built-in EQ and compression could be very handy when creating better monitor mixes for tracking...
Input signals to the computer can be recorded wet, dry, or dry with a wet monitor mix (for musicians during recording, for example).
MOTU may get me to buy one yet, as I can always dedicate my MkII to my live rig.

All in all, it looks like MOTU has hit another one out of the park with the MkIII.

I would guess it would be pretty much the same as the first and second models, at around $750. Would be a great price for that box, that's for sure.

Now this is what I was looking for - onboard dsp with effects (wonder how that reverb sounds?). Takes care of tracking vocals (and monitoring effects) and beiing able to run the whole mix at the same time at a high buffer setting.

Now what to do with my Saffire Pro...

Just a general question about XLR vs. 1/4" inputs - how crucial are the XLR preamps compared to using the 1/4" inputs in the back if I'm using outboard mic preamps anyways? Has anyone found there to be a difference in sound or level?

There is a trim level for each channel in CueMix.

This is cool. I have *always* wanted a way to do basic EQ, like high-pass filtering before the signal gets into the DAW.
