I had all kinds of trouble with an nforce4 chipset motherboard.

The PC(just built somewhat from parts), which was otherwise behaving normally, would bluescreen on startup and give a 0x0000007b error with the PCI 424X installed, whether it was plugged in to the 2408 mkIII or not or whether the 2408 was powered up or not. I had just put Vista 64 bit on the PC and I thought that was the problem. I put a copy of XP home 32-bit on and got the same bluescreen and error on startup. The 2408 mkIII had been working well on my old PC for around a year, so I knew that wasn't the problem.

Also when I installed the drivers for the Motu and attempted to open any of the console programs I would get an error that said: The AudioWire driver is missing (18) and the drivers didn't make it into the device manager. I had the spyware turned off. When I added the drivers to the device manager manually they came in with an exclamation point. This may have been due to the absence of the 424. dunno.

Fortunately the guy who built the PC took a never say die attitude and pulled out another motherboard and everything just started working fine with Vista 64-bit. I haven't done enough testing yet to make sure everything is click and pop free, but it seems to be running fine at 96K. The new motherboard is an Asus a8r-mvp. Unfortunately these aren't made any more, apparently. The point is think twice about nvidia motherboards with the PCI-424, specifiaclly the nf4. I've also read guys singing the praises of nvidia boards with Motu, so who knows.

I just went from an ASUS P5WDG2 Pro (which has an Intel 975 chipset) to a newer ABit IP35 Pro mobo (which uses an Intel P35 chipset).

My PCI424/24IO worked great on the ASUS. On the IP35 Pro, after installing the 1.6.7 drivers with setup.exe (which claim to succeed) I get a "Vista needs to install a driver for your PCI Device" (which it can't find). I can manually install the MOTU PCI GSIF Driver for x64, and that seems to start ok, but the other two drivers (Audio and Wave) don't install automatically. If I install them manually (with "Add legacy hardware") Wave and Audio show up with the yellow exclamation point in Device Manager. The MOTU apps (Audio Console and CueMix) both say "AudioWire driver not found."

I put a ticket into MOTU on 12/24, and its status is still "unread."

Not sure what to do.

I might be getting somewhere. I vaguely remember someone saying that the PCI424 wants to be a bus master. And I vaguely remember someone else saying there can be only one bus master, like Highlander.

And I vaguely remembered something in my BIOS about letting the Intel RAID controller be bus master. So I turned that off, and now the MOTU driver installer (setup.exe) is acting different, and I'd say, a lot more like I remember it acting when I had it in my older ASUS mobo.

It's still not quite there. I'm getting 0x7e BSODs in motuaw64.sys, so something's not quite right. I do feel like I'm making some progress here though. Now I'm gonna remove the PCI424 from the system, do my best to make sure the drivers are all cleaned out, restart, then run setup.exe to do an as-clean-as-possible driver install, reinstall the card, and see what happens.

I've installed my PCI424 when i bought the computer in the first slot and the machine didn't power up, I changed to the other available slot and the computer was working ok for about 4 months until it began to freeze, so I thought it was something in the software or drivers or system (Win XP professional SP2), I've changed the 424 (I have another in a mac working rock solid), reinstalled the system with no luck, and I sent the machine to the guarantee, but they told me the computer was ok. So I installed another PCI audio card for a while, but I don't know if I could change the motherboard or simply buy another audio card, maybe an RME, I need about 24 channels of adat to transfer with the mac.

Recommendations??

What card version are you folks playing with?

If it's a first gen pci card, you'll need to update it from motu. The first gen cards are not compatible with newer mobo's.

Yeah I suspect that is my problem. The card I have is from around 2002, and while it did work in my Intel 975-based mobo, it doesn't work on the newer Intel P35 chipset.

I had to buy (for $300 ) a PCIe-424 to replace it. But thankfully that card works great on the P35 mobo, and it has been trouble-free for a week.
