Preventing Error 103

I just got an error=103 message when trying to open a project I've been working on. It's a project with a several instances of VSL and a bunch of MIDI feeding VSL. After some searching here and trying a couple things it seems my file is corrupted. That really hurt because I lost many hours of work. I'll have to start over again but I'd like to make sure this doesn't happen to me again.

From my reading, it seems like large amount of MIDI data normally cause this type of file corruption and a couple people suggested using a separate MIDI interface. I'm not sure how that would help much because all my MIDI was being used internally - nothing left my computer.

Is there something I should be aware of to keep this from happening again?

You mean the file crashes or won't open at all?

The file won't open at all. I get the error message when trying to open it. It also won't load the chunk from another file and I can't import any audio because all my work had been MIDI.

do you have a back UP?

U could try dragging it on another drive and see if it opens from there.

have you installed any new plugins lately?

I do have a backup so it was only hours of work that I lost not many days of work.

I tried opening from a different drive but same problem.

The only thing new is VSL however other files with VSL still open fine including my backup version of the file I lost. Same number of instances of VSL in the backup version though far less MIDI info.

TIS a long shot but remove that VSL and see if it will open.

If it does at least you could export the MIDI info.

Did the file crash when you were working on it?

The file didn't crash while I was working. It was actually quite stable. I might try trashing my preferences and then disconnecting my vienna key so that VSL doesn't load during the AU check.
