DP fader I can't explain

Hello,
I read this forum frequently, but post infrequently! I have a question I hope someone can help with:
I teach a recording technology class at my University and while grading a student's final I was puzzled by a stereo audio fader I've never seen in this fashion before. I spent 30 minutes and couldn't figure out how she came up with this. Here is a pic:
Notice the gain goes up to +48 db! How'd this happen?
Thanks,
Brian Gorrell

The fader is in Trim mode, I can see it has Trim Touch selected. The nature of the fader and its display change when in Trim mode. Changing it to Overwrite, Latch or Touch will return it to its 'absolute' value (with the display reading from -48 to +6)
kind regards
Stephen

Hey, Brian, are you teaching at OCU? I hear they have a really nice music department, oriented toward Broadway-style musicals and such. Is that correct?
Stephen answered your question, but I thought I'd add a comment. Think of Trim actions as "change by this much." Then the fader makes more sense. You can change it in a positive or negative direction.

Nope - I teach at UCO (University of Central Oklahoma) - ironically I used to teach at OCU - still have the occasional dyslexic moment - OCU - UCO...
At University of Central Oklahoma we have a new Master of Music in Jazz Studies and one of the two majors is in Commercial Music Production. We have decided to build this program around the DP platform...
Thanks for the quick answer - didn't realize that trim settings on the automation would change the fader read out!
