That DiscWelder - does it work?

Post by grfics »

It's a little off topic, I know, but they are bundling it -

I've tried a few times to use that demo version of
DiscWelder and it has not worked for me ( crashes,
interface glitches, not one DVD burned in many tries ).

Can anyone tell me if it works? MOTU has no interest and
Minnetonka has not responded.
It seems to me they're selling a beta. Am I wrong?
I want DVD Audio and I see no other choice. Please someone
tell me it works and the problem is at my end -

I just read the other posts about DW -

So it hasn't worked for anyone. BAH!

I guess there's no DVD Audio for us.

I've been using Discwelder Bronze for about 6 months. It works flawlessly. There is a new update for Macs that adds support for Dual Layer DVD burners....

I guess not?

I have not seen one person say the Mac version worked
even once.

I got all excited and downloaded it again and spent
a half hour watching it crash. 100% unstable.

So you've actually recorded a DVD with this?
I'm just trying to be specific because you would
be the only one -

thanks

Seriously, I've waited years and done many hours of work
preparing DVD Audio to use once the software becomes
available. Now it seems it never will.
I have thunder recordings and music mixes all prepared.

I don't think anyone could possibly have made any DVD Audio
discs with this package - but I'd rather be wrong.

SDEMOTT - did you burn a disc with it?

Hello !
I have recorded a dvd with it on my G5 ....with no error ....
But I tought I had a dvd-a player and no , mine does not support it ...So I do not know yet if it does work ok ....
One thing I know is that I could not use my external Bigdisk with DiscWelder ....I had to copy my 6 wave files to my original disk .
Today , I will buy Panasonic player to try it ....

And , also , there is some little files and a big one on the dvd ....
The big one must be the encoded surround file ....

Does this version of DiscWelder only recognise WAV files, and not SDII? In DP is there a way to convert SDII surround files to 6 channel WAVs? Inside DiscWelder I am only seeing the WAV files in my folder.....

thanks

I've only used Discwelder on my G5. It does not support SDII files. Only AIFF and WAV.... You'll have to import the interleaved surround mix as separate files i.e.:
soundfile.5.1.L
soundfile.5.1.R
soundfile.5.1.C
soundfile.5.1.Lfe
soundfile.5.1.Ls
soundfile.5.1.Rs
I've played my discs on two different makes of DVD-Audio players with no problems. I only wish Minnetonka made an affordable hybrid app...

Yeah - recorded a DVD with it. Now if I had a DVD-A system to play it on... :-)
